Topsoe has made the final investment decision (FID) to build the largest SOEC electrolyzer factory in Herning, Denmark.
The current annual production capacity of the plant is 500 MW, with room to grow to 5 GW. The first offtake deal has been inked by the company.
The corporation is putting in over DKK 2 billion ($270 million), making this their largest investment ever.
The new plant will be the largest SOEC factory in the world in terms of annual production capacity, at 500 MW. This is a big step forward for Topsoe, Denmark, and the EU in their efforts to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and make the switch to green energy.
Topsoe is fulfilling its REPowerEU goals by signing a Joint Declaration in May 2022 with other industry leaders and the European Commission to pledge to tenfold increase European electrolyzer manufacturing capacity by 2025.
