Tranter Gets US Gulf Coast Order

Tranter Gets US Gulf Coast Order

Tranter has secured a significant order for six large plate and frame heat exchangers, showcasing its prowess in the post-combustion carbon capture domain.

The order, placed by a major EPC contractor specializing in gas processing, separation, and liquefaction technologies, signifies a leap forward in advancing the removal of CO2 from gas streams through a continuous process using regenerable solvents.

The heat exchangers, constructed from stainless steel and 254 SMO with EPDM gaskets, will play a pivotal role in the heat recovery and vent condensation processes within the carbon capture system. The plant, set to be constructed in Texas, United States, aims to supply hydrogen and nitrogen for blue ammonia production in the region, contributing to the clean energy transition.

Tranter’s Director EPC & Global Energy, Thomas Cassirer, highlighted Tranter’s early involvement in post-combustion carbon capture pilot plants a decade ago, providing valuable insights into the application, design, and operation of carbon capture technology. As the industry evolves to meet global net-zero goals, Tranter positions itself as a trusted advisor for engineering companies, offering expertise in both the design phase and ongoing plant operations with a service presence in Houston, United States.

The specific application of Tranter’s plate and frame heat exchangers in vent condensation and heat recovery between lean and rich solvents addresses critical steps in the carbon capture process. The efficient handling of rich solvents, which have absorbed CO2, and the subsequent desorption and cooling stages showcase the versatility and reliability of Tranter’s technology.

Tranter’s ThermoFit plates, specifically the GT-series with the Omniflex plate pattern, emerge as a key factor in the success of this project. Tailored for heat recovery duties and capable of handling high NTUs (Number of Transfer Units) without sacrificing pressure drop, these plates prove to be an ideal fit for post-combustion carbon capture applications using regenerable solvents.
