Tuco Marine and Blue World Technologies have formed a partnership to develop methanol fuel cell-powered workboats.
Blue World and Tuco have agreed to develop and demonstrate a flexible methanol fuel cell solution for electric workboats to ensure long range, no harmful emissions, and a net-zero operation. The Blue World methanol fuel cell technology offers a green alternative to the maritime industry, and the flexible fuel cell-powered solution can be used for auxiliary power or propulsion, depending on the boat type.
It is adaptable in terms of space available or placement on the ship due to its flexibility. The methanol fuel cell system is low-maintenance, produces no SOx, NOx, or particle emissions, and is CO2-neutral. Tuco offers the ProZero series, a line of professional-grade fast boats. ProZero workboats are designed to take on any challenge in the most extreme conditions. Workboats are available for a variety of specialized tasks, including line handling, pilot services, and transfer operations. Large, customized work deck areas, cranes and lifting equipment, and bow doors for easy boarding of equipment are just a few of the options available. Tuco’s lightweight design saves fuel and lowers operating costs, which is good for the environment and helps with the transition to a green economy.
Tuco Marine and Blue World Technologies are shaping the future of a more sustainable world, and through a commercial agreement, they will work together to push for a greener maritime sector. They’ve agreed to collaborate on the development of a methanol-powered workboat to reduce harmful emissions like NOx, SOx, and particles. The marine sector now has a viable alternative to combustion-based power thanks to Blue World Technologies’ highly efficient and cost-effective fuel cell solution and Tuco’s custom-built, lightweight workboats. This solution establishes a partnership that actively contributes to a green future and, moreover, reduces CO2 emissions by up to 100 percent from well to wheel.
The BlueDolphin project, in which Aalborg University is also a partner, established the partnership between Blue World Technologies and Tuco. The BlueDolphin is a research and development project for smaller vessels, such as workboats, that will be powered by a liquid methanol-fueled fuel cell system. EUPD has approved project funding to help with the development and demonstration of methanol fuel cells in workboats.
