NTPC agrees setting up green hydrogen plants with Indian Army

The Indian Army and NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL), a division of NTPC, have inked a contract for the execution of green hydrogen projects in military facilities.

According to the MoU (memorandum of understanding) with the Army, a staged identification of possible sites for the establishment of green hydrogen projects for the delivery of energy will be carried out, according to a statement from NTPC.

Plug now offering hydrogen fuel cell solution

Plug Power has increased the number of GenKeys it is supplying, making it possible for warehouses with fewer than 100 electric forklifts to adopt fuel cells.

This portion of the forklift market, which accounts for almost 25% of all forklifts sold in the United States, will now have access to affordable hydrogen fuel cells and the boosted productivity they unlock.

The limitations that fleets of 40 to 100 forklifts traditionally faced, such as money, manpower, space restrictions, and difficulties obtaining and delivering hydrogen fuel, are being eliminated by Plug.

Clients with fewer than 100 electric forklifts can quickly switch to hydrogen fuel cells, which will boost productivity and cut down on carbon emissions and storage needs. The Inflation Reduction Act, which has drastically reduced the price of green hydrogen, encourages Plug’s solutions. Federal tax benefits are also advantageous for fuel cells.

SECI to become main green hydrogen aggregator

Inter-ministerial strategies are being developed for the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to become the main green hydrogen aggregator.

The Union Cabinet adopted the National Green Hydrogen Mission in 2022 to make India a global green hydrogen producer and supplier.

It aims to create export opportunities for green hydrogen and its derivatives, reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels and feedstock, develop indigenous manufacturing capabilities, attract industry investment and business opportunities, create employment and economic development, and support R&D projects.

The Mission intends to produce at least 5 million metric tons of green hydrogen per year and build 125 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

It also expects to attract over Rs 8 lakh crore in investments, create over 6 lakh employment, reduce fossil fuel imports by Rs 1 lakh crore, and abate 50 MMT of yearly greenhouse gas emissions.

SECI is a ministry of new and renewable energy key public sector undertaking. The company is an MNRE scheme nodal agency. SECI also develops turnkey solar projects for PSUs and government agencies.

Smoltek founder Shafiq Kabir returns to company as head of Volume Processes

Shafiq Kabir has been appointed Head of Volume Processes at Smoltek Hydrogen, according to Smoltek Nanotech Holding.

The company’s technical platform and patent portfolio were meticulously developed by Smoltek’s creator, Shafiq, up until January 2021, when he took a vacation from the nanotechnology sector to enroll in an Executive MBA program.

In December 2005, Shafiq Kabir established Smoltek with the goal of creating technical products based on nanostructures that have applications across a variety of industries. He painstakingly developed the business’s technology platform, which is based on catalytic growth of conductive nanostructures and where much of the application research has been concentrated on carbon nanofibers, ever since the company was launched.
