The Operateur de Transport de Wallonie (OTW) has announced a new tender titled “Fourniture d’une solution de transport public de type autobus standards,” aiming to procure electric buses.
The notice was published on January 9, 2025, with a submission deadline of January 27, 2025. This procurement is pivotal for the hydrogen industry as it emphasizes the transition towards sustainable and electric public transportation solutions.
The primary objectives of this tender are to supply new electric buses that fall under Class I, according to the R107 standard, with electricity being the only external energy source used. The tender specifies two lots: standard electric buses of approximately 12 meters with three doors, and articulated electric buses about 18 meters with four doors. The estimated quantities are 160 and 120 vehicles, respectively, although actual orders may vary.
For industry players, this represents an opportunity to be involved in the growing shift towards eco-friendly and energy-efficient transportation. The tender includes options such as battery recharging capabilities at 300 kW and guarantees for high-tension electrical components like traction batteries and electric machines. The technical requirements ensure compatibility with existing infrastructure while allowing for future technological advancements.
The tender calls for manufacturers with a proven track record of producing electric buses over 11.5 meters, having previously manufactured at least 400 such vehicles. This requirement ensures the procuring authority of the supplier’s capacity to deliver quality and technically compliant products.
