Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued directives to officials for the implementation of the state’s Green Hydrogen Policy-2023.

This strategic policy is designed to incentivize and propel the production and utilization of green hydrogen, positioning itself as a promising alternative to traditional fossil fuels.

Green hydrogen, derived by splitting water using renewable energy sources such as solar or wind power, emerges as a clean and sustainable fuel. Notably, it emits no greenhouse gases during combustion, making it a pivotal tool in achieving net-zero carbon emissions and mitigating the adverse effects of global warming. The adoption of green hydrogen aligns with the global shift towards cleaner energy sources.

The Green Hydrogen Policy-2023 is anticipated to offer a range of incentives to companies establishing green hydrogen production units, fostering a conducive environment for the growth of this emerging industry. The key features include:

Concessional Land Rates: Companies will have access to land at concessional rates, promoting the establishment of green hydrogen production facilities.

Exemptions: The policy outlines exemptions from stamp duty and electricity duty, reducing financial barriers for companies entering the green hydrogen sector.

Financial Support: Capital and interest subsidies are part of the incentives, providing crucial financial support for businesses involved in green hydrogen production.

Additional Benefits: Various attractive additional incentives are expected to be included, enhancing the overall appeal of investing in green hydrogen initiatives.

The Green Hydrogen Policy aims to stimulate green hydrogen production for diverse applications, reflecting its versatility and potential impact on various sectors:

Ammonia Production: Green hydrogen can be combined with nitrogen to produce sustainable ammonia, addressing the needs of the fertilizer and industrial sectors.

Transportation: Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles emerge as a cleaner alternative to conventional gasoline-powered vehicles, promoting eco-friendly transportation solutions.

Power Generation: The policy emphasizes the use of green hydrogen in fuel cells to generate electricity without emissions, contributing to the decarbonization of the power generation sector.

Policy Approval: The draft Green Hydrogen Policy is reportedly awaiting approval from the state Cabinet, signaling an imminent step towards its implementation.

Roadmap for Development: Once approved, the policy will provide a clear roadmap for attracting investments and accelerating the development of the green hydrogen ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh.

Employment Opportunities: Implementation of the Green Hydrogen Policy has the potential to generate significant employment opportunities within the state.

Clean Energy Transition: Attracting clean energy companies, the policy aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s aspirations for a more sustainable future and positions the state as a key player in the clean energy landscape.

National Inspiration: The successful execution of the Green Hydrogen Policy could inspire other states to adopt similar initiatives, contributing to the achievement of national clean energy goals.
