Van Oord’s heavy lift vessel Svanen has arrived at the Danish Kriegers Flak offshore wind field in the Baltic Sea. The Svanen will begin construction works for the offshore wind farm foundations.

Van Oord signed an agreement with Vattenfall to transport and install the foundations for the Kriegers Flak wind farm. Van Oord will install the 72 monopiles and the transition pieces. Kriegers Flak will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm with a production capacity of just over 600 MW and is expected to be fully operational by 2021.

The Danish Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm is constructed about 15 to 40 kilometers from the Danish coast in the Baltic Sea.

The monopiles of up to 800 tonnes will be shipped directly to the offshore site from Rostock, Germany. The transition parts are to be shipped on barges from Aalborg, Denmark. A noise reduction system will be used to reduce the noise from offshore pile driving in the underwater. In April, Van Oord’s subsea rock installation vessel Bravenes started the installation of the seabed protection.
