Verdagy’s Green Hydrogen Ambition Takes Shape in Silicon Valley

Verdagy, a leader in advanced water electrolysis technology for large-scale industrial applications, is set to make a groundbreaking move in the green hydrogen industry. The company has announced the opening of its new facility in Newark, California, heralding a significant step towards sustainable energy production.

Verdagy’s Silicon Valley factory is poised to become the first large-scale manufacturer of advanced water electrolyzers in the United States. With over 100,000 sq. ft. of advanced manufacturing space, this state-of-the-art facility is slated to begin operations in Q1 2024.

Verdagy’s strategic vision revolves around optimizing manufacturing processes to lead the charge in scaling up the green hydrogen industry. By focusing on advanced manufacturing, cost-efficiency, and product innovation, the company is committed to achieving the Department of Energy’s target of $2/kg of levelized cost of hydrogen by 2026.

Verdagy’s customer base includes heavyweight industries such as chemicals, ammonia/fertilizer, steel, and e-fuels, all of which have a substantial appetite for green hydrogen. The Silicon Valley manufacturing facility will play a pivotal role in accelerating production and reducing costs, particularly for the eDynamic® 20-megawatt electrolyzer module—a foundational component for larger, gigawatt-scale plants.

Verdagy’s decision to expand its manufacturing capabilities in California aligns with the state’s commitment to developing a robust hydrogen economy. Governor Newsom’s Hydrogen Market Development Strategy positions California as a federally funded hydrogen hub, and Verdagy’s expansion fits perfectly into this vision.

Last month, Verdagy secured a $73-million Series B funding round, co-led by Temasek and Shell Ventures. This substantial funding injection will accelerate the commercialization of Verdagy’s eDynamic 20-megawatt electrolyzer module—a building block for future systems operating at 200 megawatts and beyond.

Verdagy’s goal is to establish a manufacturing model that can serve as the blueprint for even larger-scale production facilities in the future. While the company’s existing Moss Landing location will continue advanced research and development, the Silicon Valley factory represents a significant leap towards Verdagy’s mission of producing green hydrogen at the industry’s lowest cost.

As Verdagy’s Silicon Valley factory takes shape, it symbolizes the ongoing transformation of the energy landscape, where sustainability meets innovation, and the hydrogen revolution accelerates.
