POSCO Group holds hydrogen value chain exhibition

The POSCO Group unveiled its hydrogen value chain on January 16 during a special exhibition called “POSCO Hydrogen World” at the POSCO Center in Seoul.

The POSCO Group organized this unique exhibition to once more draw attention to the group’s hydrogen business, which was previously highlighted at the largest hydrogen industry exhibition in Korea, the “2022 H2 MEET,” which took place at KINTEX in September of the previous year.

GP Joule orders electrolyzers from H2B2

Five 2MW electrolyzers from the international technology company H2B2 will be used in green hydrogen initiatives started by GP Joule.

Due to its integration with a photovoltaic or wind system, the 10MW of electrolyzing capacity will be able to produce up to 4,300kg of green hydrogen daily in total.

The electrolyzers are scheduled to be delivered to the German company starting in 2023, and they are anticipated to start using in 2024.

DOE releases Notice of Intent to fund hydrogen projects

The US Department of Energy issued a Notice of Intent (NOI) to release a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) titled, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law: Support for Clean Hydrogen Electrolysis, Manufacturing, and Recycling.

In the energy mix of the United States, hydrogen is essential because it offers energy security, economic value, and environmental advantages. The NOI was released by the DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) in order to achieve these objectives through the provision of cooperative agreements for financial assistance. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, sometimes known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), which was passed by Congress included an appropriation for these monies.

The NOI segments the forthcoming FOA into two areas of interest with six different topic areas:

Area of Interest 1: Clean Hydrogen Electrolysis Program

  • Topic Area 1: Low Cost, High Throughput Electrolyzer Manufacturing;
  • Topic Area 2: Electrolyzer Component and Supply Chain RD&D; and
  • Topic Area 3: Advanced Electrolyzer Technology and Component Development.

Area of Interest 2: Clean Hydrogen Manufacturing and Recycling

  • Topic Area 4: Fuel Cell Membrane Electrode Assembly and Stack Manufacturing and Automation;
  • Topic Area 5: Fuel Cell Component and Supply Chain Development; and
  • Topic Area 6: Recovery and Recycling Consortium.

The objective of EERE is to: (1), if and when the FOA is finalized, lower the cost of clean hydrogen produced by electrolyzers to less than $2 per kilogram by 2026; (2), advance new manufacturing technologies and techniques for the production and use of clean hydrogen; and (3), investigate, develop, and demonstrate novel and workable methods to increase the reuse and recycling of clean hydrogen technologies.

Educational events for engineers in hydrogen industry to start in Victoria

In Melbourne, a series of educational events will begin in February with the goal of upskilling engineers so they can work in the hydrogen business. Engineers Australia and the Victorian chapters of the Australian Institute of Energy are organizing the Hydrogen Industry Technical Series 2023.

The Victorian divisions of Engineers Australia and the Australian Institute of Energy will host a 10-part series of weekly educational events from February through April because the energy transition requires a significant workforce shift away from fossil fuel systems and toward new industries like hydrogen.

The in-person courses are aimed at assisting engineers in improving their technical knowledge and understanding of the developing hydrogen industry. For instance, topics covered by the Hydrogen Industry Technical Series 2023 include hydrogen production, handling, storage, transport, dispensing, fuel cells, plant integration, safety, and more.

Lombardy Region adopts Pnrr initiative to promote renewable hydrogen

The Lombardy Region has adopted a Pnrr initiative to promote renewable hydrogen production in abandoned industrial zones.

Diversifying energy sources, technological neutrality, and creative technology research can achieve the energy transition. The Lombardy Region prioritizes hydrogen energy. The only vector that stores energy without emissions is it.

The call aims to accelerate the energy transition and make territory sustainable examples of hydrogen use.

The resolution follows the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (Mase) proposal and launches the regional competence phase, which will conclude with the publication of the regional tender and the opening of the IT window to upload applications and projects from 30 January to 20 February. Considering the March 31, 2023 deadline.

FDP request more focus to be put on hydrogen

The Hessian FDP parliamentary group has renewed its request for energy policy to place more focus on hydrogen. The state parliament’s discussion of the double budget includes a pertinent funding program that the Free Democrats have proposed that would cost 25 million euros annually.

It is one of 57 amendments to the state government’s measure that will be put to a vote in parliament the following week.

The Free Democrats also intend to promote and hasten investments in the conversion of manufacturing facilities.

The fiscal policy spokesman for the parliamentary group, Marion Schardt-Sauer, advocated for universal pay for early childhood education in order to make the field more appealing. The Free Democrats want schools to be given a flexible 15 euro per student per year culture budget.

The FDP intends to invest two million euros in artificial intelligence to improve classroom instruction. Hessen is to be transformed into a smart city model state, and the digitization of government is to be fostered, with an annual budget of ten million euros.
