Bureau Veritas sees increased demand in hydrogen certification

The Hydrogen Label certification program, which was introduced in February 2023, has seen significant demand, according to French certification expert Bureau Veritas.

Although the corporation did not give particular numbers, it did state that a number of organizations from the Middle East, Australia, Europe, and the United States have expressed interest in certification.

The French firm will evaluate assets for producing renewable hydrogen in accordance with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards, taking into account safety procedures and greenhouse gas emissions.

After confirming the quantity of hydrogen produced by certified assets, Bureau Veritas stated the last step in its plan will be to issue labels.

36 projects for building hydrogen refueling stations funded

Using money from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), 36 projects involving the building of renewable hydrogen-based refueling stations have been funded.

Around 103 million euros in total costs, or nearly 40% of the 230 million euros allotted for the measure’s implementation in the years 2021–2026. It is shared by MIT. According to the EU Alternative Fuels Directive, the commissioning of the filling stations is planned for the second quarter of 2026.

The ranking, which is now provisional and is pending the recipients’ acquisition of the necessary papers and guarantees, has stations spread out around the country.

HH2E selects five hydrogen production sites from Tegel

Five hydrogen production sites, planned from Tegel, have been chosen by HH2E.

Projects in Schleswig-Holstein, Saxony-Anhalt, and the Clean Tech Park Marzahn, where construction will start in the fall, will follow Lubmin in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Thierbach near the Saxon lignite lands, which are well advanced.

Last year, HH2E received 600 million euros from two investors, and additional funding is anticipated. For about $250 million, a 100 megawatt electrolyser, batteries, and high-temperature storage facility will be constructed as the initial step.
