Brazilian Green Hydrogen Commission debates sector investments

The Special Commission for the Debate of Public Policies on Green Hydrogen (CEHV) hosts an interactive virtual public hearing on Brazilian hydrogen production investments this Wednesday (7) at 2 pm.

The vice-president of the Private Sector of the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), Jorge Arbache; the chief economist of Banco do Nordeste do Brasil, Luiz Alberto Esteves; the executive manager of Caixa Econômica Federal, Lucas Iglesias Maia; the Banco do Brasil Corporate Sustainability Manager, Luciano Müller Gil Cardoso; the manager of the BNDES Electric Energy Department, Guilherme Oliveira Arantes; and representatives of the IDB, B.

Senator Cid Gomes (PDT-CE), CEHV’s president, recommended the hearing on April 19. Senator Cid presented an application (REQ 5/2023), accepted on May 31, to invite a Unigel representative, noting that Unigel has announced the construction of Brazil’s first industrial-scale green hydrogen facility.


South Korean wave energy plant produces green hydrogen

The South Korean Yongsoo wave energy pilot plant, which is located offshore Jeju Island, is getting ready to manufacture green hydrogen.

On the western side of Jeju Island, at the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) wave energy test site, the Yongsoo oscillating water column (OWC) wave energy converter is installed.

Two 1.8-meter-diameter impulse turbine generator units are used in the 500kW stationary OWC wave energy device.

In order to demonstrate the best operation control logic, assess the effectiveness of the wave power generation system, and validate the digital twin technology, the device has been run.


Linden Cogeneration and Phillips 66 Bayway Refinery finalize hydrogen blending commissioning

The hydrogen blending effort of Linden Cogeneration (Linden Cogen), which aims to reduce CO2 emissions by reducing the quantity of natural gas used for electricity and steam generation, has successfully finished the commissioning phase.

Linden Cogen is now using refinery off gas including hydrogen produced by the Phillips 66 Bayway Refinery and mixing it with natural gas to feed the unit 6 gas turbine after such upgrades, including PSM’s FlameSheet system. By predominantly utilizing refinery off gas and increasing flare efficiencies, the initiative is increasing overall refinery and Linden Cogen operational efficiency and lowering CO2 emissions.


Stellantis and Hype launch 50 Parisian hydrogen taxis

Hype, an independent pure-player in hydrogen mobility, and Stellantis, the first manufacturer in the world to mass-market utility vehicles and derivatives of hydrogen passenger transport, are formalizing a partnership around the supply and operation of hydrogen vehicles. The first stage of this partnership entails the delivery of a first fleet of 50 zero-emission PMR Parisian taxis (Crit’Air 0) starting in 2023.

These vehicles, which have been particularly modified from the passenger transport versions of the Peugeot e-Expert and Citroen Jumpy built at the Stellantis site in Hordain in Hauts-de-France, can hold 5 passengers, including one in a wheelchair, or 6 passengers without a wheelchair.


Cipher Neutron adds AEM hydrogen electrolyser advisory board member

Dr. Xianguo Li has been appointed to the company’s advisory board, according to Cipher Neutron. At the University of Waterloo, Dr. Xianguo Li is a renowned professor of mechanical and mechatronic engineering.

Research interests of Dr. Xianguo Li include thermal management of power batteries for electric vehicles, liquid fuel atomization and sprays, green energy systems, fuel cells, and electrolysers. Dr. Li holds the positions of Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Green Energy, Field Chief Editor for Frontiers in Thermal Engineering, Vice President, Technical Program, Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering, President, International Association for Green Energy (IAGE), and President, Fuel Cell Division, International Association for Hydrogen Energy. He is a fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering, and the Canadian Academy of Engineering.


ABS releases requirements for hydrogen-fueled vessels

The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has created and published a comprehensive set of guidelines to direct the industry in the usage of boats powered by hydrogen.

The document, titled ABS Requirements for Hydrogen Fueled Vessels, is a continuation of ABS’s focus on alternative fuels, the company claimed.

By utilizing the risk assessment outlined in the new ABS document, it mentioned projects like Veer Voyage, a wind-powered containership with auxiliary fuel cell propulsion that uses green hydrogen as fuel, as well as the ABS-classed, Glosten-designed, hydrogen-fueled research vessel for the University of California San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography.


INPEX-led hydrogen study gets AUD1M grant from Australian govt

The Australian Government has jointly awarded a one million Australian dollar grant to INPEX’s wholly owned subsidiary INPEX Operations Australia for the purpose of conducting a feasibility study into the expansion potential of a clean hydrogen market in Darwin, northern Australia.

The joint study on the Darwin Clean Hydrogen Hub by INPEX, Santos, Xodus, and CSIRO will examine ways to offer clean hydrogen solutions, with potential beneficiaries for both domestic and international hydrogen supply chains.


CPH2 terminates licensing agreement with GHFG

Following legal counsel, CPH2, a green hydrogen technology and production company, announced it is ending a licensing arrangement it had made with joint venture GHFG Ltd.

On July 19, 2022, the agreement’s terms were first made public. GHFG is a partnership between Eric Whelan, CEO of the Irish-based developer Solertricity, and multinational independent producer of renewable energy Alternus Energy Group Plc.

A Membrane-Free Electrolyser (MFE) has been created by Doncaster-based CPH2 to produce hydrogen.
