Plug Power to provide green hydrogen ecosystem for STEF
Plug Power will provide a complete green hydrogen ecosystem across two distribution centers for Blue EnerFreeze, the energy division of STEF, the market leader in Europe for the transportation and logistics of food products, with the option to later expand into their network of more than 100 sites. The closest distribution centers are one near Paris, France, and the other near Madrid, Spain.
In the worst circumstances, the warehouses where STEF stores its chilled and frozen food might experience temperatures as low as – 30 degrees Celsius. Forklifts fueled by lead acid batteries quickly lose their charge in these circumstances. Hydrogen fuel cells, on the other hand, perform better in cold storage settings, allowing for improved asset utilization and greater degrees of autonomy in taxing, frequently multi-shift, mobility applications.
Korean govt support POSCO’s hydrogen reduction steelmaking
The largest Korean steelmaker, POSCO, will get intensive government support to transform its hydrogen reduction steelmaking method.
At POSCO Pohang Works on the 14th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy met with Hwang Soo-seong, head of the Industrial Infrastructure Office, to discuss the steel industry’s carbon neutrality efforts.
POSCO offered a timeline to obtain HyREX design technology by 2025 and establish 1 million-ton demonstration production plants by 2030.POSCO will switch all carbon-based steelmaking facilities to hydrogen reduction by 2050.
By eliminating oxygen from iron ore with coke, bituminous coal used to manufacture iron, major steelmakers like POSCO generate a lot of carbon dioxide.Hydrogen reduction ironworks emit water instead of carbon dioxide.
Alstom and Air Products cooperate on hydrogen trains in Poland
In order to advance the development of direct zero-emission transport solutions in Poland, Alstom announced that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Air Products, the top supplier of hydrogen in the world.
According to the agreement, while Alstom will deliver the hydrogen fuel cell trains, Air Products will distribute, store, and provide the infrastructure for hydrogen recharging inside its own supply chain.
This agreement builds on the relationship between Air Products and Alstom that was first established in 2022 with the goal of using low-carbon hydrogen to decarbonize rail transportation in the Czech Republic.
CIP invests in CWP Global’s green hydrogen hubs
With projects in Africa, Australia, and the Americas, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has made a strategic investment in CWP Global’s development portfolio of ultra-large-scale green hydrogen hubs.
With a planned aggregate renewable power generation capacity of up to 220GW, CWP Global, a producer of renewable energy, currently owns a portfolio of green hydrogen hubs.
A development platform within CWP’s green hydrogen company has recently been bought by CIP through its Energy Transition Fund I, providing an opportunity to invest in a pipeline of green hydrogen hubs being built throughout the world.
This investment, according to a joint statement from CIP and CWP, combines CWP’s green hydrogen team with CIP’s knowledge of financing and building substantial green transition infrastructure. Furthermore, it’s said that CIP’s backing signifies a vote of confidence in the developing green hydrogen industry.
