Portugal’s first centralised biomethane and renewable hydrogen auction

According to CE NoticiasFinancieras, the first auction of the centrally purchased biomethane and renewable hydrogen for injection into the national gas network was launched for public consultation on July 11 by Portugal’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Action.
The auction will run from July 1 through July 31 for a total of 20 days.
According to the Ministry, the auction will ensure that “biomethane and renewable hydrogen producers receive first consumption response, thus encouraging investments for the implementation of the respective projects.”

Portugal has reaffirmed its goals for green hydrogen in a document that has already been submitted to Brussels with the revision of the National Energy and Climate Plan (PNEC 2030). By the end of the decade, it seeks to significantly boost capacity, going from 2.5 GW to 5.5 GW.

Siemens and Geopura to consult on car development for Extreme E’s hydrogen transition

As part of the championship’s transition to hydrogen, the cutting-edge off-road racing series Extreme E has teamed with Siemens and GeoPura, who will offer consulting expertise in the development of the series’ car.

In a consortium with Extreme E and its current partner network, Siemens and GeoPura will provide industrial software and technical consulting services to Extreme E and Extreme H as the series moves towards an exciting new endeavor with the upcoming launch of an off-road hydrogen racing championship, a first-of-its-kind in the history of motorsport.

ENOWA will keep working on the hydrogen technology that will run the infrastructure and operations on-site at each racing site. The Extreme H vehicle will employ the same chassis and drivetrain as the Extreme E vehicle. The hydrogen fuel cell, which will take the place of the battery as the main energy source in Extreme H, will be the main point of differentiation. In due order, more information about the switch to hydrogen and the Extreme E championship will be released.

DEUTZ selects MAHLE for hydrogen engine components

With its decision to continue sourcing parts from MAHLE in the future, DEUTZ is making a significant step toward the volume manufacture of hydrogen engines for the commercial vehicle industry. Developing and supplying power cell units under a volume contract has been given to the automotive supplier. These will be incorporated into the production engines that will go on sale at the conclusion of 2024.

With intentions to eventually employ them in mobile applications, DEUTZ engines will initially be utilised in stationary applications like generators.
