Ricardo supports launch of Toyota Hilux
Toyota’s first prototype hydrogen fuel cell electric light commercial vehicle was manufactured and engineered in the UK with cooperation from Ricardo, a multinational strategic, environmental, and engineering consultancy firm. Toyota’s Derby-based plant produced and put together the prototypes.
Toyota and Ricardo have been collaborating to create a hydrogen-powered version of the Toyota Hilux under the auspices of the APC, a collaboration through which the UK government has supplied financing for the project. The company may now go forward with physical tests, capability analyses, and feasibility studies in the upcoming months thanks to the launch.
Aldbrough Hydrogen Storage hosts public consultations on low-carbon hydrogen plans
This month, Aldbrough Hydrogen Storage will host public consultations on its plans to store low-carbon hydrogen for the UK’s Humber region.
A low-carbon hydrogen storage facility will be built close to the current Aldbrough Gas Storage site as part of the combined SSE Thermal and Equinor project.
Events for consultation will take place on September 13 from 2 to 7 p.m. at East Village Meadows in Northfield Farm Garton; on September 14 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Aldbrough Village Hall on Garton Road in Aldbrough; and on September 15 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Sproatley Village Hall on Park Road in Sproatley. Up to September 29, consultations can also be held online at any time.
NSTA takes over as hydrogen regulator
Following government deliberation, the NSTA will take over as the organization responsible for granting permits and issuing licenses for offshore hydrogen pipelines, much like it already does for oil and gas.
Additionally, it will have authority over offshore hydrogen storage, giving it the ability to grant licenses and participate in environmental regulator OPRED’s decommissioning and repurposing infrastructure decision-making processes.
The action follows the UK Government’s hydrogen policy from 2021, which set a goal for the country to have 10GW of low-carbon hydrogen capacity available by 2030.
