Wupsi GmbH has announced a tender titled “Delivery of Hydrogen for Fuel Cell Buses and Establishment of a Simplified Refueling Solution,” published on April 4, 2025.

Submissions for this tender are anticipated before the vehicles’ operational date in April 2025. This tender is a critical initiative for promoting green hydrogen use, representing substantial progress for the hydrogen industry, particularly in public transportation.

The main objective of this tender is to ensure the uninterrupted supply of green hydrogen to fuel initially ten hydrogen buses in Leverkusen for a period of at least three years. Since the full-scale hydrogen refueling station will not be ready at the vehicle delivery time, a temporary simplified refueling solution is required. The tender includes both the supply of green hydrogen and the installation of this interim refueling setup. The contract will run initially for three years and can be renewed twice, each for an additional year, at the buyer’s discretion.

Significant for the hydrogen and public transport sectors, this initiative aligns with moves toward cleaner, sustainable urban transportation solutions. Green hydrogen use will help mitigate climate change impacts, fitting within the wider scope of the Clean Vehicles Directive. The tender process involves a competitive negotiation strategy with pre-publication, emphasizing quality and pricing.
