The Western Australian Government has launched an Expressions of Interest (EOI) process for its $10 million Hydrogen Fueled Transport Program, which aims to promote the usage of hydrogen-fueled vehicles and local hydrogen generation in the state.
Operators of public transportation, equipment manufacturers, and hydrogen producers are asked to submit an expression of interest.
The initiative will fund a project that entails the acquisition and operation of hydrogen or green ammonia-fueled transportation, as well as the installation of one or more refueling stations.
Shortlisted EOI applicants will be encouraged to submit a more detailed project proposal.
The EOI process’s successful applicants will be revealed in 2022.
Transit is one of four strategic emphasis areas identified in Western Australia’s Renewable Hydrogen Strategy, which highlights commercial vehicles as an early opportunity to utilize hydrogen energy for mobility and freight transport.
The program is part of the $61.5 million investment in renewable hydrogen development outlined in the State Budget for 2021-22, and will generate offtake options to ramp up local production.
The Western Australian Government has invested around $90 million to advancing the state’s renewable hydrogen economy, and is on course to reach the Renewable Hydrogen Strategy’s 2022 targets.
