The prime minister of Western Australia will announce the locations of new hydrogen centers and important mineral grants, claiming that the projects would create thousands of employment in the industry.
Two new hydrogen hubs will be built in the Pilbara in the state’s north and Kwinana in Perth, with $140 million in government financing for the hubs and $6 million to study two additional development projects in WA.
According to the federal government, the two new centers will generate more than 3600 jobs and $410 million in new private and public investment.
An additional $67 million will be spent on the development of two carbon capture and storage centers, as well as the evaluation of a third possible storage site in Western Australia.
A total of about $8 million will be allocated to the state’s key minerals industry.
According to Mr. Morrison, the investments would help to secure more employment and strengthen supply chain industries.
“Western Australia is a global leader in vital minerals, and these investments are only the start of our commitment to the industry,” he said.
“These investments will also assist accomplish the government’s objective of making Australia a worldwide producer and exporter of clean hydrogen by 2030 by accelerating the development of Australia’s essential minerals and clean hydrogen sectors.”
