IFS retrofits heavy transport with hydrogen

IFS signed a partnership with a number of major trucking fleets to support and advance the use of hydrogen fuel in 90% of current HD engines. IFS’ patent-pending Multi-Fuel Technology Platform (MFTPTM) retrofit dual-fuel technology is a cleantech solution that reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and generates fuel savings for heavy-duty (HD) trucks.

Some of the largest HD fleets in Canada are represented by the founding members, which include Certarus, KAG Canada, Superior Propane, Trimac Transportation Services Inc., and a sizable, Alberta-based fleet operating across North America. These businesses are aware of the need to lower GHG emissions in the HD transport sector and value the advancement of hydrogen as a GHG-reducing fuel. They back the commercialization of IFS’ dual-fuel MFTPTM system because it enables in-cylinder mixing, which delivers unsurpassed performance and GHG savings, is industry proven, and it represents the fastest and most cost-effective route to hydrogen fuel utilization within the industry.

“Cleaner-burning natural gas is currently commercially accessible with our MFTPTM technology. We will use this information to develop a hydrogen dual-fuel option that will be commercially available in late 2023 and allow fleet owners to easily transition to using hydrogen fuel in their current fleet “IFS President and CEO Leland Oberst made statement. This partnership’s main goals are to improve performance for heavy-duty fleet owners and lower GHG emissions.

“Using IFS’ MFTPTM retrofit technology on our current HD trucks, we have successfully replaced a significant amount of diesel fuel with cleaner-burning natural gas for more than a year. This has demonstrated to be an excellent, financially viable, long-term solution to reducing emissions while continuing to use our current fleet infrastructure and maintaining HD engine performance in difficult operations and conditions, “Chris Chapman, vice president of fleet services at KAG Canada, says In order to achieve net zero aims, “we support the commercialization of MFTPTM hydrogen fuel technology since it can be made commercially accessible in the near future and can help drive demand for existing hydrogen fuel station infrastructure.”
