Wood bags FEED for large-scale green hydrogen plant in Norway

The front-end engineering design (FEED) scope for Gen2 Energy’s green hydrogen production facility, which will be located in Mosjen in northern Norway, has been awarded to Wood.

The new 100MW plant will be the first significant commercial green hydrogen production facility in Norway. Wood, a pioneer in hydrogen production systems, will use its decades of hydrogen knowledge and breadth of project execution capabilities to create the new 100MW plant.

The honor comes in the wake of Wood’s original conceptualization of the plant and additional production facilities that Gen2 Energy is building to hasten the distribution of hydrogen produced in Norway using renewable energy sources with zero emissions to the UK and the rest of Europe.

Mosjen in the Vefsn municipality of northern Norway is a great location for large-scale production of green hydrogen because it has easy access to inexpensive electricity. The first stage of Gen2 Energy’s proposal is for the construction of a 100MW facility that will continuously produce 45 tonnes of green hydrogen daily.

‘We are thrilled to help Gen2 Energy and facilitate the acceleration of green hydrogen generation in Norway,’ said Lars Fredrik Bakke, Wood’s vice president for Norway. We are well-positioned to facilitate the development of large-scale production facilities that will play a crucial role in facilitating a shift to a lower carbon energy mix because to our strong domain expertise in hydrogen projects. In order to assist Gen2 Energy’s ongoing expansion and to join forces with them in our common goal of building a greener, more sustainable future, we look forward to strengthening our partnership with them.

The contract with Wood signifies a turning point in Gen2 Energy’s targeted endeavor to realize the large-scale generation of green hydrogen in Norway, according to CEO Jonas Meyer. We will construct a factory that converts green hydrogen into a product for markets in Norway and northern Europe in close cooperation with Wood. Hydrogen knowledge from Gen2 Energy complements Wood’s industrial project capabilities quite nicely.

Wood’s current teams in Norway will carry out this contract with assistance from the company’s international expertise from its operations and projects business groups. Together with employees from Gen2 Energy, Wood will carry out the FEED study.
