In order to build a green hydrogen and green ammonia project in Namibia, Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) and Enersense Energy Namibia (EEN) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
In accordance with the MoU, FFI will assist the Daures Green Hydrogen Village project throughout its earliest stages by providing support, expertise, and direction.
In order to develop agricultural products utilizing fertilizers made from green ammonia and to offer green hydrogen and green ammonia to regional and international markets, the project hopes to revolutionize farming in Africa.
“Namibia has the potential to become a global powerhouse in the green energy value chain, with its abundant natural resources able to generate the renewable energy needed to produce large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia for export and decarbonize local industry,” said John Ngumi, chairman of FFI Africa.
The village wants to be Africa’s first Net Zero community and has the ability to produce more than 1GW worth of renewable energy and more than 350,000 tonnes of ammonia, according to Jerome Namaseb, CEO of Daures Green Hydrogen Village.
The German Federal Ministry of Research and Education has provided money for the project’s first stage, which is now made up of more than 1MW of renewable energy and a 500kW electrolyzer.
Along with providing a vegetable greenhouse, the project also plans to collaborate with the Universities of Namibia and Stuttgart on a number of agricultural research projects.
