Secretariat of the Environment and Water Resources (Semarh) of the Government of Piauí has granted a preliminary environmental license for the establishment of a Green Hydrogen Production Park in the Export Processing Zone (ZPE) of Parnaíba.
Simultaneously, approval has been given for the installation of a Solar Energy Production Park. The combined investment by foreign companies is set to exceed R$100 billion, marking a significant milestone in the realm of green energy initiatives.
The primary objective of this venture is to establish the world’s largest green hydrogen and derivatives project, with a staggering production capacity of almost 11 gigabytes of hydrogen. Governor Rafael Fonteles emphasized the project’s role in generating substantial amounts of green fuel, earmarked for both domestic consumption in Brazil’s industry and export, particularly to Europe.
At the core of this ambitious undertaking is the utilization of solar energy to power the hydrogen production process. The integration of a Solar Energy Production Park underscores the commitment to sustainable and renewable energy sources. The entire hydrogen production chain, from solar energy generation to the production of green hydrogen and subsequent ammonia, is poised to redefine the landscape of green energy technology.
The implications of this initiative are far-reaching. The project aligns with the global agenda for decarbonization, offering a substantial green alternative for industrial processes. The injection of over R$100 billion into Piauí’s economy is expected to catalyze economic growth, job creation, and technological advancement. Furthermore, the export of green hydrogen derivatives holds the potential to position Piauí as a key player in the global green energy market.
