Namibian President Hage Geingob has made a compelling call to world leaders, urging them to invest billions in Namibia’s green hydrogen initiative and the requisite infrastructure during the global renewables and energy efficiency pledge at the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai.
President Geingob emphasized the need for substantial investments to construct critical infrastructure such as ports, roads, railways, transmission lines, and pipelines for water and hydrogen. This financial support is crucial for Namibia to materialize its ambitious green hydrogen projects and establish the necessary framework for a green industrial revolution.
Namibia envisions utilizing its abundant mineral resources for manufacturing battery precursors, thereby adding value before exportation. The country’s green hydrogen activities focus on diversifying exports and leveraging renewable energy sources to produce more than 10 gigawatts in the next two decades.
President Geingob outlined Namibia’s ambition to position itself as a hub for renewable energy innovation. This entails driving green industrialization, creating job opportunities, fostering economic development, and ensuring universal energy access. The nine green hydrogen projects in progress underscore Namibia’s commitment to a sustainable and diversified energy future.
