Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman of Saudi Arabia held a crucial meeting with Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Jamshid Kochkarov, in Riyadh on Thursday. The meeting focused on fortifying joint cooperation in various energy sectors, marking a milestone in the bilateral relations between the two nations.

The highlight of the meeting was the signing of a groundbreaking agreement aimed at implementing an 800 megawatts renewable energy and integrated green hydrogen project. The agreement, a collaborative effort between Saudi company ACWA Power and the Uzbek Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade, and the Uzbek Yukmeosanoat Company, signifies a shared commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions.

The 800MW project is poised to leverage cutting-edge technology in the realms of renewable energy and green hydrogen production. The integration of renewable sources, possibly including solar and wind, showcases a strategic approach to harnessing clean energy for large-scale hydrogen production. Green hydrogen, produced through renewable methods, has gained global attention as a key player in the transition to a carbon-neutral future.

The ambitious venture holds the potential to reshape the energy landscape of both Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan. The sheer scale of the 800MW project positions it as a significant contributor to the countries’ renewable energy portfolios. Green hydrogen, being a versatile and clean energy carrier, opens doors to a range of applications, from industrial processes to transportation, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions.
