Advario, a leading tank storage and logistics provider, has unveiled plans to construct an ammonia import terminal in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges.
This strategic move aims to address the growing global demand for hydrogen, particularly in regions with limited production capacity, by facilitating the safe and efficient transport of hydrogen carriers like ammonia.
As the market for hydrogen continues to expand globally, countries with lower production potential are increasingly reliant on imports to meet their demand for clean energy sources. Advario recognizes this growing need and aims to bridge the gap between international supply and demand for hydrogen. Sjoerd Boer, Vice President New Energies at Advario, emphasizes the company’s commitment to hydrogen and its role as a crucial component of the clean energy mix.
Advario’s ambitious plans are backed by advanced feasibility studies conducted in collaboration with their partner Fluxys. The proposed ammonia import terminal in Antwerp represents a significant step towards establishing dedicated infrastructure for the safe handling and storage of hydrogen carriers. The company’s Belgian terminals, including Advario Gas Terminal (AGT) and Advario Stolthaven Antwerp (ASA), are key players in this endeavor.
The visit by the Hydrogen Council’s leadership team to Advario’s AGT terminal underscores the importance of safety and regulatory compliance in the handling of ammonia. Director Safety & Regulatory, Andrei Tchouvelev, commended Advario’s commitment to safety and praised the team’s preparedness and expertise in handling hazardous materials.
