Sembcorp Energy India (SEIL) has completed 800MW of wind energy projects under the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), increasing its operational renewable energy potential to 1.730MW in India.

Upon the complete commissioning of its 300MW SECI 3 wind project, Sembcorp is becoming the first independent power producer to deliver on its projects awarded in SECI’s first three wind tenders.

It is also the highest operating wind capacity available from SECI tenders for any developer to date.

Together, these assets have ample renewable energy to power over 600.000 homes and prevent carbon dioxide emissions of more than 2 million tons per year.

“India is a key market for Sembcorp’s Energy business. The successful completion of our SECI wind power projects is testament to the solid track record and expertise we have on the ground to deliver large-scale renewable energy assets. We thank the Indian government for their trust in and partnership with us as we continue to provide sustainable energy solutions to support urbanisation, electrification and decarbonisation in India.”

Wong Kim Yin, president & CEO, Sembcorp Industries.

“This is a collective achievement for India’s power sector. A significant moment for the industry and the country, it reflects India’s commitment to renewable energy. The successful completion of the SECI 1, 2 and 3 projects was made possible with the support and guidance of MNRE and Ministry of Power, as well as close partnerships with many central, state and local authorities. We are honoured to dedicate these state-of-the-art assets to the country and the communities we serve, as we continue to support India’s energy transition. Delivery of this 800MW capacity is a testament to the collaboration between industry and government.”

Vipul Tuli, Managing Director, SEIL.

The SECI 3 project by Sembcorp is the first in the country to install 2,1MW G122-127m wind turbines designed to work efficiently even at low wind speeds. The wind turbine generators used in the SECI 1 and 2 projects at Sembcorp are also well adapted to different climatic conditions. Furthermore, the advanced integrated digital control and analytics capabilities of Sembcorp are coordinated with on-the-ground teams to maximize performance and asset life.
