Reversible fuel cell technology is the focus of a newly launched company, Refhuel. BIRAD, a research and development company affiliated with Bar-Ilan University in Israel, and Refhuel, a subsidiary of Israeli investment firm Decama Capital, signed a license agreement to use the technology. Professor Lior Elbaz of Israel’s Bar-Ilan University has been working on reversible fuel cell technology, which is already in development. Fuel cells expert Professor Lior Elbaz is based at Bar Ilan University’s Department of Chemistry and heads the Israel Fuel Cells Consortium. Fuel cells based on Refhuel’s reversible hydrogen carrier technology will allow for efficient energy storage…

Construction of a 660MW power generation plant at the Hunter Power Project in Kurri Kurri, New South Wales, has been awarded to CIMIC Group’s UGL as the Principal Contractor. More than $185 million in revenue will be generated by the contract over the course of two years. F-class gas turbine generators and related axillaries will be used to generate power at the plant, which will be capable of operating on a hydrogen fuel mix. CIMIC Group Chief Executive Officer Juan Santamaria said: “Hydrogen-ready gas turbines have an important role in reducing carbon emissions from traditional power generation. “We are pleased…
With the agreement of Cummins and Westport Fuel Systems, Westport’s stake in the Cummins Westport Joint Venture will be sold, with Cummins continuing to operate the business as a sole owner of Westport. An end date of December 31, 2021 was previously announced for the Cummins Westport joint venture agreement. After signing the agreement, Cummins will also purchase the intellectual property developed by Westport for use in the JV’s spark-ignited engines, with a $20 million profit for Westport. Hydrogen high pressure direct injection (H2 HPDI) from Westport, which could be used for CMI hydrogen applications, has also been agreed to…
EQT Corporation, Equinor, GE Gas Power, Marathon Petroleum, Mitsubishi Power, Shell Polymers and U. S. Steel have formed a new alliance that will play an important leadership role in decarbonizing the industrial base in the Northern Appalachian Region of the United States. Allies in Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania will work together to create a low-carbon hydrogen industrial hub as a national model for sustainable energy and production systems. There could be a significant increase in employment, the preservation of current jobs, and the reduction of greenhouse gases if this industrial hub is properly implemented. It is anticipated that carbon…
A new hydrogen storage system for future fuel cell passenger cars is currently being developed by BMW AG, Robert Bosch GmbH, TesTneT Engineering GmbH, and Hexagon Purus. FlatHyStor – “Functional design and testing of an innovative hydrogen tank system” – has received funding from the German BMWi, with a total project budget of 6 million euros (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy). Light-duty car underbodies are typically used to house battery modules in Battery Electric Vehicles, but the project’s goal is to develop an advanced hydrogen storage system for this space (BEVs). German premium automobile manufacturer BMW AG is…
For the first time ever, a Mississippi-based company, Hy Stor Energy, has become a Tier 1 member of the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA). Members of Hy Stor Energy will advocate for long-term renewable hydrogen storage solutions and highlight hydrogen’s critical role in global decarbonization efforts as part of the association focused on advancing innovative, clean, safe, and dependable energy technologies. “We are proud to join FCHEA and work together with its membership to advance renewable hydrogen that produces zero-carbon and zero-methane at production, distribution, and consumption,” said Laura L. Luce, CEO of Hy Stor. “At Hy Stor…
In terms of hydrogen production, hydrogen can come from a variety of sources, but natural gas is still the most widely used in this regard. Hydrogen production technologies are expected to play a major role in decarbonization in the future as a result of the push for energy transition and technological advancements Several new hydrogen production technologies are described in a recent report by the International Energy Forum, with the goal of increasing hydrogen’s role in carbon-intensive industries. About 70% of the world’s hydrogen is produced using natural gas, primarily methane, and in the United States, that number rises to…
According to the Australian energy consultancy Energy Quest, six companies have applied for 18 oil exploration licenses in South Australia in the last year in hopes of finding natural hydrogen deposits in underground salt caverns. The advisory found that the area covered by the permit is equivalent to 570,000 square kilometers, or 32% of the entire state. The “future fuel,” natural hydrogen, is being sought by exploration companies as a possible low-cost and easy-to-obtain source. Although natural hydrogen is abundant, it has received little attention. As a reminder, natural hydrogen reservoirs are the result of chemical reactions that take place…
Research and development of environmentally friendly hydrogen production and storage will be the focus of Norvento’s participation in the ZEPPELIN consortium. The consortium, led by Aqualia, will look into new ways to produce green hydrogen as an alternative to electrolysis, which is currently the most widely used method of producing hydrogen. This will help promote a circular economy by revaluing waste and waste products from various industries, such as agri-food, textiles, refineries, and wastewater treatment facilities. While most hydrogen is generated from fossil fuels, only 1% is generated from renewable sources. It is expected that by 2030, 25% of the…
Faculty and staff at Campus do Pici, led by Prof. Prisco Bezerra, hosted a delegation from Rectory, the Federal University of Ceará. The Department of Mechanical Engineering’s Laboratory of Hydrogen and Thermal Machines received an investment of more than R$ 500 thousand on the occasion. The goal is to adapt the site’s facilities to allow for research partnerships, with a primary focus on green hydrogen studies. As a result, a space fuel research facility is being considered. The University of Porto do Pecém collaborates with the state government to plan, research, and build a hydrogen production hub in the city.…
