As hydrogen fuel becomes commercially available, Bergen Engines has launched a comprehensive test program to ensure that the company can make a smooth transition from liquid natural gas to 100% green hydrogen fuel. It has been successfully completed the first tests on a B-Series Bergen gas engine, which is running on 15 percent hydrogen and 85 percent natural gas, without any hardware adjustments. While emissions of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide were reduced at all load levels, the power output was maintained in accordance with the design specifications. The lower levels of unburned hydrocarbons and methane leakage have also been…

Jericho Energy Ventures’ wholly owned subsidiary, Hydrogen Technologies, has added a new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). When it comes to the company’s commercial activities, Dean will take on the new role of overseeing HT’s expansion to take advantage of the ever-growing global demand for its breakthrough, zero-emission hydrogen DCCTM boiler solution for steam or hot water, a clean district heating solution or carbon-free Combined Heat and Power (CHP) enabler. Dean has over 30 years of successful experience in the global energy markets, developing, selling, and marketing innovative products. Prior to joining HT, he worked for Larsen & Toubro (L&T), one…
Extreme E has teamed up with AFC Energy for Season 2, where it will use its zero-emission fuel cell and hydrogen power generation technology. This is a first for Extreme E, which aims to be environmentally friendly and have the least possible negative impact on the communities where its races take place by using hydrogen fuel cell generators for power generation. AFC Energy has developed a cutting-edge solution for the production of renewable jet fuel that is both cost-effective and environmentally friendly. The ODYSSEY 21 E-SUVs on the grid are powered by hydrogen that is generated from water and the…
For the first time, a hydrogen fuel test will take place at PROENERGY’s unique string-test facility, a plant-level facility that mimics real-world operating conditions while being disconnected from the grid. Additionally, it will serve as a testing ground for aeroderivative fuel flexibility and resiliency as the facility’s capabilities evolve. As a result of its enhanced capabilities, PROENERGY intends to not only test aeroderivative package design enhancements and power-augmentation methods, but also evaluate the limits of hydrogen fuel mixes. The company intends to begin with a hydrogen mix of less than 30 percent and gradually increase it to 50 percent, ultimately…
Co-chairs Tom Linebarger and Yoshinori Kanehana of Kawasaki Heavy Industries have announced a major leadership shift for the Hydrogen Council. Founded by Kawasaki, the Council is a major player in the hydrogen sector and advocates for its role in accelerating the decarbonization of the industry. Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki has been leading HySTRA (Co2-free Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain Technology Research Association) and working with other companies on a project that will see the first liquefied hydrogen ship operating between Japan and Australia.. Yoshinori Kanehana says: “I am honored to be appointed as a new Board member and co-chair. We are now…
Hy2gen plans to produce green ammonia as a marine fuel in the Norwegian municipality of Sauda, on the country’s southwest coast. Hy2gen, Trafigura, a leading independent commodity trading company, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), a Danish fund management company specializing in renewable energy infrastructure, will jointly own the green ammonia production facility known as Iverson eFuels. Investing in the production, storage, and shipping facility will bring jobs to the local community, according to the consortium’s plans. Before beginning the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase, the project owners worked with Norconsult on a 2021 pre-study that culminated in a complete construction…
Proton Technologies Canada has licensed Sabien Technology Group to use its hydrogen fabrication and carbon capture technology in the United Kingdom. According to the AIM-listed carbon reduction company, the license allows for a daily hydrogen production capacity of up to 20 metric tons. Sabien will hold a minority equity position in a special purpose vehicle in which Proton has awarded an option to create and manage a plastics-to-oil recycling plant at Proton’s Canadian site. Sabien now has access to the hydrogen market in the United Kingdom as a result of this agreement.
Atlantique Offshore Energy, a business unit of Chantiers de l’Atlantique dedicated to marine energy, has developed an integrated H2 emergency power supply solution that combines the latest fuel cell technologies with its offshore system designer and manufacturer experience. To meet the 18-hour autonomy requirement of the platform safety utilities stipulated by the Standard, this technology, dubbed SeeOs+H2, replaces conventional diesel backup generators. It emits no CO2 or NOx during this time. An electrolyser and a full set of management, monitoring, and control tools are all built in. “We are really happy to contribute to the decarbonization of our customers’ operations…
Clean hydrogen production startup HiiROC has received investment from CEMEX and CEMEX Ventures. Biomethane, flare gas, or natural gas can be converted into hydrogen using HiiROC’s thermal plasma electrolysis technology at a lower cost than the competition and with no impact on climate change. CEMEX is working with HiiROC to increase its hydrogen injection capacity across its cement operations while reducing fossil fuel consumption. Founded in 2019, HiiROC has developed a novel process that produces high-purity hydrogen and clean carbon black at significantly higher temperatures and pressures. Cement kiln hydrogen injection capacity will be increased by CEMEX and HiiROC through…
Delta-EE, a research and consulting firm, believes that policy support for green hydrogen will become economically viable in 2022. There are 115 clean hydrogen projects in Delta-database EE’s with a combined electrolyser capacity of 2,138MW that are expected to be operational in 2022 and 2023, according to the organization’s report. However, in Europe and the UK, only about a third (794 MW) of these projects have been approved for final investment or have received public funding. As a result, the majority of people are reliant on clear legislative direction and financial incentives from their home countries. UK incentives like the…
