Plug Power has signed a deal with Edison Motors to develop and market a hydrogen fuel cell electric city bus. Fuel cell engines from Plug Power’s ProGen series will power Edison Motors’ electric bus platform. Companies expect to have a working prototype of a fuel cell electric bus in the second half of 2022 and a mass market platform ready by the beginning of 2023. “The fuel cell electric city bus project is just the beginning of strategic cooperation between Edison Motors, and Plug Power,” said Chairman Young-kwon Kang of Edison Motors. “In the future, we hope to partner on…

Decarbonizing grids will be a joint effort by National Grid and the Town of Hempstead, which will result in the construction of one of the nation’s first and largest clean hydrogen projects. Around 800 homes will be heated and ten city vehicles will be fuelled by the HyGrid Project in Point Lookout, Long Island. The town and National Grid collaborated in 2009 to build a hydrogen production facility to supply green hydrogen to local vehicles. The demonstration of low-carbon transportation provided by this project was a major success on a national scale. The Town of Hempstead and National Grid will…
The Hyundai NEXO set a new endurance record of six hours in extreme weather conditions. 190 laps on the ice circuit of the Record Center for Decarbonized Vehicles (Val Thorens) were completed by Adrien Tambay, a French driver. 267.8 m3 of purified and reduced CO2 were officially measured during this high altitude record attempt. Passengers in Hyundai’s NEXO were able to get up close and personal with some of the industry’s most dynamic players.
ENGIE and Equinor signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in February to work together on low-carbon hydrogen projects. The H2BE project, which aims to develop the production of low-carbon hydrogen from natural gas in Belgium, has now been announced by the two companies. It was on October 29th that the Belgian federal government released its Hydrogen Strategy, and the H2BE project will assist in implementing it. Autothermal reforming (ATR) and carbon capture and storage (CCS) are key components of the H2BE project, which aims to produce hydrogen from natural gas (CCS). Hydrogen can be produced at large (GW) scales at…
The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) announced that the FlexH2 project of the GROW consortium had been awarded a grant as part of the MOOI-SIGOHE tender scheme. FlexH2, which stands for Flexible Offshore Wind Hydrogen Power Plant Module, is a Shell-led research project that aims to develop and demonstrate technology that will accelerate the scale-up of offshore wind, green hydrogen production, and its integration into the energy system. The government is contributing 4 million euros through this grant, and the partners are investing approximately 5 million euros in the project. The four-year research project will begin on April 1st, 2022. The…
ABB has signed an agreement with HydrogenPro, a hydrogen plant company, to supply electrical equipment for the world’s largest single stack high-pressure alkaline electrolyzer – a system that generates hydrogen by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity. The system will be capable of producing 1,100 normal cubic metres of green hydrogen per hour (Nm3/h) when it is deployed in 2022 at a specially built test facility in Herya, Norway. Since 1975, demand for hydrogen has more than tripled and continues to rise, so scaling up technologies and lowering production costs are critical to enabling hydrogen to become widely…
Hydrogen Vehicle Systems (HVS) in Scotland has received nearly £50,000 in funding from Scottish Enterprise and Transport Scotland. This assistance was provided as part of the “Can Do Zero Emissions Heavy-Duty Vehicles (HDV) challenge” launched in July by Transport Scotland and Scottish Enterprise to assist businesses in developing innovative solutions to decarbonize transportation and aid Scotland’s green recovery. HVS intends to use this funding to conduct a feasibility and development study for its rigid hydrogen-powered truck. There are currently 486,000 HGVs on British roads, with rigid trucks accounting for roughly half of these. All of these will need to be…
HRS, a European leader in the design and construction of hydrogen refueling stations, has signed a partnership agreement with Hype for the supply of 8 HRS hydrogen stations between 2022 and 2023, as part of the deployment of its proprietary green hydrogen production and distribution network, designed to support the development of carbon-free mobility, primarily for Hype taxis. This contract has a potential revenue of around €24 million. The stations will be primarily installed in the Île-de-France region to help Hype achieve its goal for the 2024 Olympics: 10,000 taxis with a network of 20 stations capable of producing 1,000…
H2 Clipper, an aerospace and alternative energy company developing uniquely capable hydrogen-powered airships, has been accepted into Dassault Systèmes’ exclusive 3DEXPERIENCE Lab accelerator program. Participation in the accelerator will assist H2 Clipper in furthering its mission of developing and commercializing a global fleet of 100% green airships that will transform the hydrogen and air transport industries. H2 Clipper’s 21st-century airship is intended to transport pure hydrogen from where it is least expensive to produce to markets where clean energy is most needed, as well as to enable a carbon-free method of transporting freight and other cargo 7-10 times faster than…
Equinix announced that the Clean Hydrogen Partnership will contribute EUR 2.5 million to a project to develop low-carbon fuel cells to power data centers. It is hoped that this will reduce carbon emissions from operations by up to 100%. The EcoEdge PrimePower (E2P2) project is a novel proof-of-concept initiative aimed at developing and demonstrating low environmental impact fuel cells that provide cost-effective and resilient prime power solutions for data centers. Equinix, InfraPrime, RISE, Snam, SOLIDpower, TEC4FUELS, and Vertiv will collaborate to investigate an innovative integration of solid-oxide fuel cells (SOFC) with uninterruptible power supply (UPS) technology and lithium-ion batteries to…
