Vestas has secured a 226 MW order for five wind energy projects in Russia from Wind Energy Development Fund (WEDF), a joint investment fund created on a parity basis by PJSC Fortum and JSC RUSNANO. With this fifth order from its framework agreement with RUSNANO and Fortum to supply wind energy solutions in Russia, Vestas increases its footprint in the country to a total capacity of almost 830 MW. DEPCOM Power has started construction on the Altavista Solar plant near Lynch Station, Virginia. The 113 MWdc utility-scale solar plant will span across approximately 720 acres and is being engineered and constructed by DEPCOM for Liberty Power. Developed by Apex Clean Energy, Altavista Solar will be the first utility-scale solar project in Campbell County and generate over $1.8 million in local tax revenue over the project’s 35-year lifetime. Walney Extension, a joint venture owned by Ørsted (50%), PKA (25%) and PFA (25%), has signed an agreement for the sale of its transmission assets to Diamond Transmission Partners Walney Extension.  Diamond Transmission Partners Walney Extension is a partnership between Diamond Transmission Corporation, HICL Infrastructure Company and Chubu Electric Power. The transmission assets hold an asset value of £447 million (100%). The assets include the onshore substation, export cables, and the offshore substations. The EU-funded Ocean DEMO project has opened its 3rd call. Successful applicants will receive free access to test their ocean energy products and services in real sea environments at the project’s network of test centres. Duke Energy Florida (DEF) has unveiled the locations of its three newest solar power plants, which will provide cleaner, smarter energy solutions to benefit Florida customers. The power plants namely are Duette, Charlie Creek and Archer. The Duette solar power plant will be built on approximately 520 acres in Manatee County, Florida. Once operational, the 74.5 megawatt (MW) facility will consist of approximately 227,000 single-axis tracking solar panels, capable of producing enough electricity to power approximately 23,000 homes at peak production annually. Southern Company has set new long-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. The company also reaffirmed its intermediate goal of a 50 percent reduction of GHG emissions from 2007 levels by 2030. These are enterprise-wide goals across all electric and gas operations. New goal replaces the low- to no-carbon goal the company unveiled in April of 2018.
