U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy (FE) has selected four projects for cost-shared research and development under the funding opportunity announcement (FOA), DE-FOA-0002180, Design Development and System Integration Design Studies for Coal FIRST Concepts. When fully negotiated and awarded, it is estimated that approximately $80 million in federal funding will be provided to these projects. Keppel Data Centres (Keppel DC), City Gas and City-OG Gas Energy Services (City-OG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore using Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and hydrogen to power Keppel DC’s Floating Data Centre Park (FDCP) in Singapore. Under the MOU, the three parties will jointly explore and evaluate LNG procurement strategies and the energy transition to hydrogen in the longer-term. The 2.4 MW/2.4 MWh energy storage system (ESS) supplied by Wärtsilä for Sunseap Energy Ventures of Singapore under an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract has been installed. TransAlta Renewables has informed that Southern Cross Energy extended its current power purchase agreement (PPA) with BHP Billiton Nickel West in respect of SCE’s 245 MW of generation facilities in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. The amendment to the PPA replaces the previous contract that was scheduled to expire December 31, 2023. Infigen has entered into an agreement with TransGrid relating to Infigen’s dispatch of the 50MW/75MWh battery energy storage system that will be constructed at the Wallgrove substation in New South Wales. The Wallgrove Grid Battery will be owned, constructed and maintained by TransGrid, with commercial operations expected to begin in H2-2021. Aker Offshore Wind and Aker BP have agreed to a cooperation agreement aimed at accelerating the process of decarbonizing oil and gas assets and realizing offshore wind in Norway at large scale. The two companies intend to collaborate on concepts for efficient development of large offshore wind parks to enable effective offtake to oil and gas producing assets on the NCS.
