Large-scale green hydrogen production projects for off-takers in the Nordics and Brazil are being investigated by the Norwegian company Hydro Havrand and the Swedish company H2 Green Steel. In accordance with a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the firms will look into potential green hydrogen production projects in Brazil that may produce up to five million tonnes of green steel directly in a plant owned by H2 Green Steel. The partners have also stated that they will look into the possibility of building a sizable green hydrogen production facility in the Nordic region. The companies will work together on design…
The European energy crisis presents a big potential for Australia to export more green energy, according to the chief financial officer of Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) on Thursday. Due to an energy crisis, European countries are attempting to wean themselves off of Russian gas by promoting renewable energy sources. In anticipation of colder weather and any Russian supply interruptions, nations are also searching for measures to reduce energy consumption and restock their gas inventories. As the miner transitions from a pure-play iron ore producer to a green energy company, Fortescue Metals Group and its green energy arm Fortescue Future Industries…
The European Commission has authorized public funding for two initiatives by the multinational Italian companies Enel Green Power and Eni to create green hydrogen under IPCEI Hy2Use. This project of common interest to the EU will spend up to €5.2 billion to support research and development, the first industrial application, and the development of supporting infrastructure in the hydrogen value chain. It was jointly prepared and notified by 13 EU Member States. The money donated will go to South Italy Green Hydrogen, the joint venture the two businesses formed to advance the development of the projects. A 20 MW electrolyzer…
The Renault-owned performance brand Alpine is getting ready for an all-electric future, and at next week’s Paris Motor Show, Alpenglow will debut a new concept. The Alpine Alpenglow is referred to as “the starting point for all future Alpine designs, technology, and breakthroughs” and has the appearance of a Le Mans sports prototype racer. In practice, that will probably mean more for Alpine’s plans to create a replacement for the present A110 than it will for the widely anticipated Renault 5 EV variants and an unidentified SUV. The concept is nearly five meters long, two meters broad, but only one…
A diesel engine has been modified by engineers at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney to burn 90% hydrogen and 10% diesel fuel, reducing pollutants by 85%. For heavy-duty applications, hydrogen is seen to be the sole viable option for lowering carbon emissions. The hydrogen combustion engine has not yet progressed beyond the prototype stage. Even the industry leader in engines, Cummins, with its fuel-agnostic engine architecture, was unable to solve all issue associated with making combustion engines use hydrogen. Engineers from the UNSW have chosen an alternative strategy to reach the decarbonization objective. They experimented with…
A hydrogen co-firing combustor for home gas turbines has been developed, and the power plant’s field demonstration is currently under progress. By lowering carbon dioxide emissions, hydrogen fuel combustion in a gas turbine for LNG power generation is anticipated to help achieve carbon neutrality. The “300MW Gas Turbine Hydrogen Co-fired Combustor Development Performance Report” was held at the Daejeon Headquarters, according to a report from the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, and a demonstration of it will begin at Korea East-West Power early the following year. Since July 2020, the research team under the direction of Kim Min-guk, director…
Lotte Chemical is collaborating to create and deliver ammonia and clean hydrogen while expanding the market. Through this agreement, the two businesses committed to cooperating in order to establish clean hydrogen and ammonia policies. This includes joint investments in clean ammonia production as well as cooperation in the production of clean hydrogen, which is gaining attention as a crucial energy source for achieving carbon neutrality, ocean transportation, and terminal operation. To ensure domestic and international supply, Lotte Chemical intends to work with Mitsubishi Corporation on ammonia production projects in the US and other nations. The effective operation of the ammonia…
A U.S. energy corporation and the South Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) have joined forces to explore technology for a massive liquid hydrogen carrier. The agreement with CB&I, a division of McDermott, a provider of energy engineering and construction solutions, asks for both businesses to work together to develop technology to install sizable liquid hydrogen storage tanks aboard ships and other related locations. According to DSME, CB&I produced the largest liquid hydrogen storage tank in the world and gave it to the Florida-based Kennedy Space Center. Since liquid hydrogen is easier to transport and store than…
The Vehicle Certification Authority has authorized First Hydrogen’s two light commercial vehicles (LCVs) for use on roads in the United Kingdom, excluding Northern Ireland. Beginning in January 2023 for a total of 24 months, the cars will be able to participate in customer trials on public roads. During this time, the company hopes to gather valuable proprietary data from fleet owners and spark significant interest in potential purchases in the future. The vans will be tested under real-world conditions with major fleet operators in the UK at first, giving the company the opportunity to publicly display its innovative design and…
S&B Engineers and Constructors (S&B) has began work on Plug Power’s Peachtree hydrogen project in Kingsland, Georgia. The facility will create green hydrogen using Plug’s patented electrolysis technology, which will then be liquefied, kept, and loaded for shipment. The facility will be able to produce 15 tons of liquid hydrogen per day once it is finished. In addition to already finished engineering work for Plug’s Pathfinder hydrogen test facility, which is also located on the site, S&B is providing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for the Peachtree site.
