Ørsted has made final investment decision for the 298 MW Haystack wind project in Wayne County, Nebraska. Situated adjacent to Ørsted’s 230 MW Plum Creek wind farm, Haystack will utilize existing interconnection infrastructure in SPP North. U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy (FE) has selected four projects for cost-shared research and development under the funding opportunity announcement (FOA), DE-FOA-0002180, Design Development and System Integration Design Studies for Coal FIRST Concepts. When fully negotiated and awarded, it is estimated that approximately $80 million in federal funding will be provided to these projects. DOE’s early stage research for the Coal FIRST Initiative supports the development of 21st century electricity and hydrogen energy plants that have net-zero carbon emissions. Fugro has used its integrated augmented-reality solutions to support Jan De Nul Group’s offshore installation of two monopiles for the first two offshore wind turbine foundations in US federal waters. By combining a range of vision technologies, Fugro ensured that the project’s challenging installation tolerances were met in full and both monopiles at the Coastal Virginia offshore wind project off the east coast of the US were safely positioned. Strong supply chain interest and demand has led to the flagship regional Fit 4 Offshore Renewables New Anglia (F4OR NA) programme securing funding to support a further five regional companies, in addition to the 10 previously announced. Keppel Data Centres (Keppel DC), City Gas and City-OG Gas Energy Services (City-OG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore using Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and hydrogen to power Keppel DC’s Floating Data Centre Park (FDCP) in Singapore. Under the MOU, the three parties will jointly explore and evaluate LNG procurement strategies and the energy transition to hydrogen in the longer-term. The 2.4 MW/2.4 MWh energy storage system (ESS) supplied by Wärtsilä for Sunseap Energy Ventures of Singapore under an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract has been installed. The ESS facility is a test-bed supported by Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) and SP Group, a leading energy utilities company in Asia Pacific and it represents an important milestone in Singapore’s energy transition towards a low-carbon energy future. TransAlta Renewables has informed that Southern Cross Energy extended its current power purchase agreement (PPA) with BHP Billiton Nickel West in respect of SCE’s 245 MW of generation facilities in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. The amendment to the PPA replaces the previous contract that was scheduled to expire December 31, 2023. Infigen has entered into an agreement with TransGrid relating to Infigen’s dispatch of the 50MW/75MWh battery energy storage system that will be constructed at the Wallgrove substation in New South Wales. The Wallgrove Grid Battery will be owned, constructed and maintained by TransGrid, with commercial operations expected to begin in H2-2021. Infigen’s agreement with TransGrid is for a period of 10 years following the commissioning of the Wallgrove Grid Battery. K2 Management has signed a 10-year contract to deliver technical expertise on what will be the largest onshore wind project in Vietnam on behalf of Philippine bank, Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), together with RCBC Capital Corporation. RCBC appointed K2 Management as Lender’s Technical Advisor for the circa 210 MW onshore wind farm being jointly developed by AC Energy and AMI Group in the Quang Binh province of Vietnam.
