The Genesee County Economic Development Center (GCEDC) has accepted an initial application for incentives from Plug Power for a proposed $232.7 million green energy technology facility at Western New York Science & Technology Advanced Manufacturing Park (STAMP). The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has handed out $2 million to four research and development (R&D) projects advancing clean-hydrogen production technologies. Natural gas is currently the main source for hydrogen production by industrial facilities in the United States. With this funding, researchers will explore a different way to produce hydrogen using a process known as co-gasification. Sunseap Group has signed a long-term agreement with Amazon to export 62 megawatts (MWp) of clean energy to the national grid, that will help Amazon meet its sustainability goals. Sunseap was awarded one of the two contracts under JTC’s SolarLand Phase 3 tender last year, part of JTC’s efforts to make industrial estates more environmentally friendly. Standard Hydrogen Corporation (SHC) and National Grid plan to build the first hydrogen “energy station”, backed by a Cornell University grant. The SHC Energy Transfer System will be built in New York’s Capital Region and the completion is expected in 2022. The facility will be the first demonstration of SHC’s renewable hydrogen-based energy storage and delivery system. The hydrogen for the SHC Energy Transfer System would be manufactured at the site via an SHC-designed electrolysis system that splits the water molecules into gases.
