Italgas and Australian Jemena have agreed a collaboration aimed at sharing knowledge and experiences in distribution network management, with a particular focus on technological innovation and decarbonization. Under the terms of the agreement, the companies will collaborate and share information on digital solutions to transform gas networks into carriers and storage systems for renewable gases, such as hydrogen, biomethane and synthetic methane. They will also collaborate on intelligent metering solutions, with a focus on next-gen smart meters, sensors and appliances, along with customer experience, asset reliability and safety with particular reference to monitoring systems for the mitigation of fugitive methane…

Queensland has opened the second round of the Hydrogen Industry Development Fund. The Queensland Government committed a further $10 million in funding. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Hydrogen Industry Development Fund would help Queensland firms tap into growing global demand for hydrogen. “We’re investing in this industry to create more jobs in Queensland. We have an opportunity to position Queensland as a world leading exporter of renewable hydrogen in the future. That’s what this initiative is all about. We’re seeing growing demand for hydrogen and other renewables. We’ll continue to invest in this emerging industry to create jobs and rebuild…
Mainspring Energy has launched the Mainspring Linear Generator, the first product in a new category of power generation technology for commercial and industrial buildings, utilities, and microgrids. The growing mandate for a reliable, affordable, and low-carbon electric grid is driving demand for new power generation technologies that can enable increased use of renewable energy while providing improved resilience against natural disasters, increased flexibility, and lower cost than the electric grid. Mainspring’s technology, based on research originally conducted by the company’s co-founders in a thermodynamics laboratory at Stanford University, is designed to meet these demands by delivering dispatchable, fuel-flexible power that…
MV Index Solutions (MVIS) has launched the BlueStar Hydrogen and NextGen Fuel Cell Index and the BlueStar Big Data & Analytics Index. The BlueStar Hydrogen and NextGen Fuel Cell Index is a global index that tracks the performance of the global hydrogen and fuel cell segment. Due to the lack of pure-play companies in the global hydrogen and fuel cell segments, this includes pure-play and non-pure-play companies. Pure-play companies are those with at least 50% of their revenues from hydrogen and/or fuel cell. Non-pure-play companies are those that are engaged in hydrogen or fuel cell projects, including the production of…
A ground breaking has taken place in Douglas County to mark the start of the construction of renewable hydrogen production facility near Baker Flats, East Wenatchee. Douglas County PUD commissioners Aaron J. Viebrock, Molly Simpson and Ronald E Skagen broke the ground for the facility. The 5MW pilot project will provide flexibility to Douglas PUD operations at their Wells Hydroelectric Project. Generation requests can be sent to the hydrogen electrolyzer to reduce the mechanical adjustments necessary at the Wells Hydroelectric Project to balance the grid. This will reduce the maintenance necessary on the turbine units and associated equipment. “Douglas PUD…
The Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (CHFCA) and Hydrogène Québec have appointed Marie Lapointe as executive director of Hydrogène Québec and CHFCA regional manager, Eastern Canada. With over 30 years of experience, Lapointe holds an engineering degree and has held various roles in plant management, strategy and marketing at Niobec, Rio Tinto Alcan, and Rio Tinto Fer et Titane. She previously served as CEO of Aluquébec, the Aluminium Transformation cluster in Quebec. In this role, Lapointe will support the CHFCA’s provincial branch in Quebec (Hydrogène Québec) and overseeing marketing, communications, government relations and events for the sector in Quebec…
Saipem and Alboran Hydrogen will develop five plants for the production of green hydrogen in Italy and in the Mediterranean basin.
HyPoint has unveiled the first operable prototype of its turbo air-cooled hydrogen fuel cell system. Full-scale versions, which are expected to begin shipping in 2022, will drive the commercial development of zero-emission e-aircraft, eVTOL, and urban air mobility vehicles, and serve an important role in the global effort to curb carbon emissions. The arrival of zero-emission aviation has been hindered by the energy density limitations of lithium-ion batteries and the specific power limitations of hydrogen fuel cells. Testing has shown that HyPoint’s turbo air-cooled hydrogen fuel cell system will be able to achieve up to 2,000 watts per kilogram of…
Vestas has received a 67 MW order for the Grönhult project in Sweden.
SolarPower Europe has launched a new workstream on Renewable Hydrogen. The workstream will strive to develop market and business intelligence on solar-to-hydrogen and renewable hydrogen, identifying the most promising business models and the means of accelerating the cost-reduction of electrolysis-based production. It will develop recommendations from the solar industry, to promote renewable hydrogen in key European policy files such as the upcoming revision of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) and revision of the EU State Aid Guidelines for Energy and Environment (EEAG). “On the road to achieving climate neutrality in the EU, renewable hydrogen is the missing puzzle piece,…
