SunPower will close SunPower Manufacturing Oregon, its solar panel manufacturing plant in Hillsboro, Oregon. The decision to close the plant will impact approximately 170 employees. SunPower will provide all impacted employees with comprehensive separation packages, including severance, work transition assistance and six months of COBRA for continuation of health insurance coverage. “We made the difficult but necessary decision to close our plant after careful evaluation and the change in focus of our business over recent months. Distributed Solar Development (DSD) has acquired a three-project, 17 MW community solar portfolio from Source Renewables, a New York State developer focused on community solar assets. Clearway Energy Group has started construction on Mesquite Sky, a 345 megawatt (MW) wind farm in Callahan County, Texas. Baltic Power, subsidiary of Polish energy company PKN Orlen, has hired offshore wind consultancy firm OWC as technical advisor to its 1.2 GW offshore wind development in the Baltic Sea. PKN Orlen, through its subsidiary Baltic Power, holds a license to build wind farms in the Baltic Sea with a maximum total capacity of up to 1.2 GW. The area covers approximately 131 square kilometres located some 23 kilometres off Choczewo and Łeba. Wärtsilä will supply two large-scale biogas upgrading plants to different locations in Denmark. The order was placed by Nature Energy. By injecting biomethane – the end product of upgraded biogas – to the gas grid, Denmark will be taking an important step towards its stated ambition of becoming a climate neutral and fossil-free nation. The agreement with Wärtsilä dates back to early 2019, but the project was delayed because of permit applications. Voltalia, an international player in renewable energies, has reached 1,015 of installed capacity at end 2020,overpassing its 1-gigawatt target set in 2016. Voltalia has increased its portfolio of installed plants by 18 percent since September 30, 2020. Siemens Gamesa has signed its first wind power project in Ethiopia with state-owned electricity company Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP). The 100MW Assela wind farm will be located between the towns of Adama and Assela, approximately 150 km south of the capital, Addis Ababa, and will contributetoclean and affordable powerfor the country’s electricity grid.
