The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office (HFTO) is leading the charge by offering fellowships that support innovative climate solutions and reinforce America’s position in science and engineering.

Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power has inked memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with two prominent Chinese companies. These agreements encompass a wide spectrum of green energy initiatives, including green hydrogen and ammonia production, global renewable energy endeavors, and integrated smart energy solutions.

Owned by EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Ltd and in collaboration with Hanson UK, National Nuclear Laboratory Limited, EDF ENERGY R&D UK CENTRE LIMITED, and Asphalt Burner Services Ltd, the ‘Bay Hydrogen Hub – Hydrogen4Hanson’ project is set in Lancashire and has been awarded £6,119,361.49. This initiative aims to decarbonize the asphalt and cement production industry while pioneering nuclear-derived hydrogen production.

In a recent development, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals took part in a technical workshop titled “Methods of Underground Energy Storage” on September 13, 2023. The event, described in a statement by the Specialized Energy Platform, explored Oman’s potential in underground hydrogen storage, leveraging its geological features like salt domes and porous rock formations.

‘Element One’  project has received a substantial grant of £4,872,653 from the UK Government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, signifying a profound commitment to transitioning towards cleaner energy sources in the construction industry.

Japanese industrial precious metals firm TANAKA Kikinzoku Kogyo K.K. has inked a technical assistance agreement with China’s Chengdu Guangming Paite Precious Metal Co., Ltd. The partnership is focused on advancing fuel cell electrode catalyst manufacturing technologies. The strategic alliance aligns with TANAKA’s goal to cater to China’s growing domestic demand for fuel cell electrode catalysts.

UK consortium led by Ryze has secured over £3.2 million in government funding to pioneer mobile hydrogen refueling solutions for construction sites.

TEMSA which allocates approximately 5 percent of its turnover to research and development annually, has teamed up with Portugal-based zero-emission bus manufacturer CaetanoBus to create an intercity bus powered by hydrogen fuel.

During the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Ursula von der Leyen revealed that the EU is now attracting more investment in hydrogen energy development than both the United States and China combined.
