Environmental Protection Agency Tasmania has made available for public comment a draft set of recommendations for a renewable hydrogen and ammonia factory in Long Reach. The 750 megawatt green hydrogen plant proposed by energy retailer Woodside under the moniker H2TAS will create up to 800,000 tons of ammonia each year, according to the proposal. The factory will use raw water from the Kanamaluka/Tamar River to manufacture liquid ammonia, a major component of agricultural fertilizer, and will release wastewater back into the river. Environmental impact statement comments will be accepted until June 27. Since the release of its Renewable Hydrogen Action…

Woodside Energy and Fortescue Future Industries are competitors in the last stage of discussions to become the principal developer of the world’s largest green hydrogen facility, which will be constructed in Southland. Contact and Meridian Energy are expected to pick the principal developer for the Southern Green Hydrogen project following the submission of more specific proposals in late August. Depending on its size, a hydrogen plant might provide an alternate use for all the electricity currently needed to operate the Tiwai Point aluminum smelter, should it close in 2024. A spokeswoman for Meridian Energy stated that the proposal was not…
After years of experimentation, big oil firms are now considering the kind of large-scale investments that would make green hydrogen a significant industry. They are pursuing a very specific vision of a low-carbon future, which involves multibillion-dollar developments that create massive concentrations of renewable electricity and turn it into chemicals or clean fuels that can be delivered around the world to power trucks, ships, and even airplanes. According to Julien Rolland, head of power and renewables at commodities broker Trafigura Group Pte Ltd, “oil majors have been developing multibillion-dollar projects for eons.” This green hydrogen and green ammonia will constitute…
It comes after a similar land leasing agreement for the project’s upstream component was signed in September.
In the field of hydrogen, Bavaria is one of the pioneers in Europe. The focus of a delegation trip to Munich by Lower Austria’s Economic Regional Councilor Jochen Danninger, WKNÖ President Wolfgang Ecker, the state’s business agency ecoplus and companies from Lower Austria was therefore on the topic of hydrogen technology. “Especially in view of the Ukraine war and the energy crisis, which is currently posing major challenges for the whole of Europe, we can learn a lot from our Bavarian neighbors in terms of hydrogen. The federal government’s hydrogen strategy must now be implemented very quickly. Here, we Bavarians…
SB Energy, a subsidiary of SoftBank Group Corp., and Elixir Energy, an Australian energy business, have signed an MOU to collaborate on the research and development of a green hydrogen generation project in Mongolia’s Gobi Desert. SB Energy announced in a press release that the construction of this project would represent the company’s first foray into the green hydrogen industry. SB Energy and Elixir intend to establish a green hydrogen generation project in Mongolia with a capacity of one gigawatt. The Nomgon IX Coal-bed Methane project is located in the South Gobi region of Mongolia and is owned by Elixir.…
An important component of the Bavarian hydrogen strategy is international partnerships with future suppliers of green hydrogen. For this reason, a Bavarian hydrogen delegation with representatives from business, research and politics will visit Chile and Colombia from June 20 to 24. Bavaria’s State Secretary for Economic Affairs Roland Weigert will join the delegation in Colombia on June 22 and meet, among others, Energy Minister Diego Mesa in Bogotá. Weigert: “Green hydrogen is the key resource in the transformation of our economy towards climate neutrality. In Bavaria, we will need large quantities of the climate-friendly energy carrier in the foreseeable future…
SK Gas, a part of South Korea’s second-largest conglomerate, SK Group, has led a $34 million fundraising round for C-Zero. In addition to Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Eni Next, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and AP Ventures, two new investors joined SK Gas: Engie New Ventures and Trafigura, one of the world’s largest physical commodities trading organizations. The funds will be used to construct C-first Zero’s pilot plant, which is anticipated to go online in the first quarter of 2023. The facility will be able to produce up to 400 kg of hydrogen per day from natural gas without emitting any carbon dioxide.…
Researchers from the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London have utilized a photoactive material as a non-toxic alternative to semiconductors for the production of green hydrogen. Due to the importance of hydrogen fuel in the transition to full decarbonisation and the goal of attaining net zero emissions by 2050, it was demonstrated that easily available oxide and carbon-based materials may be used to produce long-lasting, clean hydrogen from water. Considering that the majority of hydrogen is derived from fossil fuels, it is essential to find alternatives, such as devices that capture sunlight and split water. Current earth-abundant light-absorbing materials,…
