The arrival in Victoria today of the world’s first liquid hydrogen carrier, the Suiso Frontier, marks the completion of the Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain (HESC) Pilot Project and the start of Australia’s hydrogen sector. HESC’s objective is to manufacture carbon-neutral hydrogen by extracting it from a mix of Latrobe Valley coal and biomass, absorbing and storing CO2 via the CarbonNet Project, and optimizing the HESC supply chain’s energy efficiency. HESC’s commercial phase production of 225,000 tonnes of carbon-neutral liquefied hydrogen (LH2) will contribute to global CO2 emissions reductions of approximately 1.8 million tonnes per year (equivalent to the emissions of…

The concept for a hydrogen manufacturing plant in Yorkshire has progressed after energy company Equinor submitted its plans to the Government’s ‘cluster sequencing procedure’ in phase two. H2H Saltend is the company’s projected 600 megawatt low carbon hydrogen production plant with carbon capture, located east of Hull in Saltend. The Humber region is home to the UK’s most carbon-intensive industrial sector. Equinor stated that H2H Saltend might enable industries on Saltend Chemicals Park and in the surrounding East Yorkshire area to cut CO2 emissions by almost one million tonnes per year, or 30% of the Saltend Chemicals Park’s current emissions.…

The Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) announced the acquisition of 23 Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (HFCEVs), the company’s first purchase of hydrogen-powered vehicles. Next month, the firm expects to double its fleet of HFCEVs to 50, making SoCalGas one of the nation’s first utilities to begin the shift to hydrogen. These HFCEVs are a critical step toward decarbonizing SoCalGas’ fleet and contribute to the company’s Net Zero 2045 climate objective of replacing 50% of its over-the-road fleet with clean fuel vehicles by 2025 and operating a 100% zero-emission fleet by 2035. “California companies must work together in…

The STRING partner areas in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway recently unveiled their ambitions to connect a network of hydrogen refueling stations between Hamburg and Oslo. Today, alternatives to fossil fuels are already available. Several technologies, including hydrogen cell technology, may facilitate the shift to zero-emission road transport. STRING members are now preparing to invest in this revolutionary process. GREATER4H was established under Schleswig-STRING Holstein’s leadership, and the state will continue to lead the initiative. Europe Minister Claus Christian Claussen stated, “In the transportation sector, zero emissions are only attainable with an emission-free charging infrastructure. If GREATER4H is a success,…
