Australia could create $63 billion in new investment opportunities over the next five years by strengthening climate targets and policies to achieve net zero emissions by mid-century, according to new economic analysis. The analysis also finds that, under this scenario, private investment will accelerate to 2050, with hundreds of trillion dollars in opportunities generated by renewable energy, green hydrogen, manufacturing, electrified transport and carbon sequestration. However, if current climate goals and policy approaches persist in the coming decades, substantial private investment opportunities, worth $43 billion by 2025 and $265 billion by 2050, will be missed compared to the Paris-aligned emissions path.…

Tilt Renewables has carried out the necessary engineering investigation following a blade detachment incident on a single turbine at the Dundonnell wind farm. An assurance test protocol has also been established to enable unaffected turbines to be gradually returned to service in a safe manner. Tests and inspections on 25 turbines have already been completed and are now completely operational. The remaining turbines will be tested and returned to service in the next 7 – 10 days, with one damaged unit estimated to take several weeks to complete repairs. In addition, once the root cause investigation has been concluded and any…

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy’s Directorate General for Climate and Energy (DGC) have released a statement of intent (SOI) to work together to compile, evaluate and exchange information on hydrogen production and infrastructure technologies. Through this initiative, real-world data from hydrogen applications will be collected to guide both future hydrogen research and development (R&D) and demonstration activities. As part of this SOI, EERE and DOE’s Office of Technology Transitions (OTT) will exploit technological expertise and equipment and facilities at DOE’s National Laboratories…

Vestas has received an 8 MW order for 4 MW turbine components for a 60 percent PTC value from an undisclosed client. These components will allow future wind energy projects to be completed by the end of 2024. The PTC terms set out in the PATH Act, passed by Congress in 2015, made the wind industry the first to agree on a permanent tax reform and resulted in billions of dollars in investment in wind energy in the U.S., including expansions in domestic manufacturing and supply chains, construction , transport, tax revenue to local communities, and the addition of tens…

Wood Mackenzie’s latest analysis shows that more than $5 trillion of investment will be required in order for China to hit its carbon neutrality path by 2060. The hefty bill is the total amount needed for additional power generating capacity to meet the rise in electrification by 2050. “It is definitely a colossal task for a country using 90% hydrocarbons in its energy mix and annually producing more than 10 billion tonnes of CO2-e, and in addition, accounting for 28% of global total emissions.”In our Accelerated Energy Transition (AET-2) scenario, China’s emissions peak immediately and enter a period of rapid…

Vestas has upgraded the existing turbine versions of the EnVentus platform to a standard rating of 6.0 MW. The upgrade to 6.0 MW delivers an increase in energy production of more than 3 percent compared to 5.6 MW depending on site-specific conditions, while the siteability parameters are maintained. Upgrades are allowed by advances in load assessment and hardware upgrades unique to the generator, gearbox and cooling system. At the same time, Vestas is building the V162-6.0 MW prototype turbine at the Østerild National test center for large wind turbines in western Jutland, Denmark. It will be mounted next to the…

Società Gasdotti Italia (SGI) commissioned DNV GL to determine the feasibility of progressively moving Italy’s second largest gas network from natural gas to renewable gases, including hydrogen. The study would help SGI’s goal to completely decarbonize the supply of energy to Italian homes and businesses through its gas network. DNV GL experts in Groningen, Norway and Milan will explore the feasibility of hydrogen transport options through 1,800 kilometers of SGI’s regional and national high-pressure network. The study will direct SGI in determining acceptable parts of its gas network for the safe transport of blended natural gas and hydrogen mixtures. The…
