Canadian Solar has sold the Suffield Solar project to BluEarth Renewables. Currently under construction in southeastern Alberta, the project will have a capacity of 23 MWac/32 MWp, and will be one of Alberta’s largest solar PV facilities. Direct Energy will buy the Suffield facility electricity when it is operational later this year. With nearly one million private, business and wholesale clients in Alberta, Direct Energy is one of the largest energy and energy-related service providers in North America. New research reveals that polymetallic rocks located on the deep-sea floor can supply hundreds of millions of tons of heavy-duty battery metals to store energy and power electric vehicles (EVs) with much less effect on the atmosphere than to extract the same metals from the earth. Vestas has entered the Colombian wind power market with a 20 MW order for the Guajira I wind park, located at the municipality of Uribia, in La Guajira, Colombia. The contract covers the supply and installation of ten V100-2.0 MW turbines, as well as an Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement to run and maintain the wind park for the next 12 years. GE Renewable Energy has been selected by Megha Engineering and Infrastructure (MEIL) to supply and commission four 125 MW fixed speed pumped storage turbines for the new Kundah hydropower plant in India. This greenfield project is part of initiatives funded by India’s central government to increase hydropower capacity locally significantly including pumped hydro storage solutions.
