Hevel Group started the construction of several off-grid solar PV plants in Russia’s Far East. Three standalone solar power systems with a capacity of 1,3 MW will supply electricity to rural villages. Hybrid diesel-solar plants paired with battery storage reduce consumption of diesel fuel by up to 500 tonnes in the first year after commissioning.  Hevel also plans to complete construction works on another 2.5 MW off-grid solar PV project in Siberian Krasnoyarsk region till the end of 2020. The solar power plant, combined with three diesel power stations and a 450 kWh storage system, will become the largest off-grid…

China is projected to install 251 gigawatts (GW) of new wind capacity from 2020 through 2029. Through the end of the decade the country’s wind power sector could hit a combined grid-connected potential of 461GW, according to Wood Mackenzie. More than 25 wind bases with a total capacity exceeding 100GW are already planned and under construction to support wind growth in the near term. Throughout the long run, rising rates of electricity costs (LCOE) are expected to drive additional capacity. “The coronavirus has impacted 10% of new capacity additions in 2020. However, the bigger challenge for wind developers is the…

A strong result by Ireland’s wind industry in the second quarter means that Ireland is now on track to meet its 2020 renewable energy goal of 40 percent renewable energy. Figures released by the Irish Wind Energy Association show that wind supplied 28.5 percent of Ireland’s electricity during April, May and June and is overall at 36.8 percent for the first half of the year. “Ireland is number one in the world for the share of electricity demand met by onshore wind. Last year we broke records by providing a third of the country’s electricity and, along with smaller contributions…

With some of the most ambitious climate change targets in the world, our renewable energy sector is playing a critical role in decarbonizing our energy system as we work towards achieving net-zero. The world’s raw resources are limited. As demand for these resources increase, supplies deplete, driving up costs. The circular economy represents an opportunity to move away from the linear approach of creating and delivering a product or service that is disposed of at the end of its life. This waste represents an enormous pool of resources that can be exploited with minimal impact on the environment. A…

EDP Renewables reports that its 200 megawatt Harvest Ridge Wind Farm has completed construction and is now operational and providing clean electricity in Douglas County. Harvest Ridge and EDPR’s other six operational Illinois wind farms produce enough clean electricity to power 412,000 average Illinois homes each year. Harvest Ridge will add to the environment by saving over 355 million gallons of water each year and expelling carbon emissions from fossil fuel power plants, which is a serious contributor to climate change. Over the next several months and while the wind farm produces clean power, the development efforts will go on…
