New Regen analysis shows that the UK has a pipeline of shovel-ready renewable energy and battery storage projects that could provide hundreds of thousands of jobs and contribute over £125 billion to the green economic recovery – if facilitated by the UK government. The analysis shows the huge scale of the opportunity to drive reductions in carbon emissions across the energy sector, whilst kickstarting the economy and creating valuable jobs across the country. The falling costs of renewables and storage means that the 61 GW pipeline of green electricity projects can be developed quickly through private sector investment, allowing public…
Ørsted acquired the 227MW under construction Muscle Shoals solar project located in Colbert County, Alabama, USA. Concurrent to the acquisition, Ørsted enters into a tax equity funding commitment with Wells Fargo. The project will be Ørsted’s second solar project in the US, following the decision in November 2019 to commence construction of the Permian Energy Center solar plus storage project in Texas. Following the acquisition of Muscle Shoals, Ørsted will have two solar projects totaling 647MWac of generation capacity under construction across the US along with 40MWac of storage capacity. Muscle Shoals is expected to come online in third quarter…
Fugro has mobilized two additional vessels off the coast of New Jersey to support their ongoing site characterization work for Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind, a joint venture between Shell New Energies US and EDF Renewables North America. Operating in the Atlantic Shores lease area since May, Fugro now has three vessels on site with a fourth to be added later this month. The project involves collection of high resolution geophysical, benthic and shallow geotechnical data within the lease area and along two proposed export cable routes. These data will be processed and analysed to characterise site conditions, including bathymetry, seafloor…
The European Marine Energy Center (EMEC) has been contracted by the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) to support the construction of its tidal energy test site at Jang-Juk Strait near Jindo Island, Korea. KIOST is developing a grid-connected tidal energy test site on the Jang-Juk Strait in Korea’s Southwestern Sea. The site of the Korea Tidal Current Energy Center (K-TEC), which will have a grid capacity of 4.5 MW, is scheduled to be operational by 2022. Having handled the design, development and operation of its four marine test facilities in Orkney over the past 17 years, EMEC…
Air Products, ACWA Power and NEOM have signed an agreement for a $5 billion world-scale green hydrogen-based ammonia production facility powered by renewable energy. The plant, which will be equally owned by the three partners, will be sited in NEOM, a modern model for sustainable living located in the north west corner of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and will manufacture green ammonia for export to global markets. The joint venture project is the first collaboration for NEOM with leading foreign and national partners in the renewable energy sector and it will be a foundation for its strategy to become…
ENERCON has secured new project orders for 220 MW in Lower Saxony. A total of 6 wind farms with 41 wind energy converters are scheduled for construction from next year onwards in the districts of Oldenburg, Diepholz, Nienburg and Verden. A corresponding framework agreement between the wind energy converter supplier and the customer consortium Schierloh Engineering and VR Energieprojekte Wildeshauser Geest was signed in Aurich. “We are very happy that we can continue this excellent cooperation with our regional partners. We have already worked together in a trusting collaboration on projects in Lower Saxony in past years. The fact that…
VSB has started construction on a 40MW wind farm in Finland which will consist of 7 Nordex N163/5.X wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 5.7 MW. The wind farm is expected to be operational by summer 2022. The project is situated on the west coast of Finland near Kalajoki, in the Northern Ostrobothnia area. The Nordex N163/5.X turbines are to be built some 7 kilometers from the coastline of the Gulf of Bothnia. VSB plans to complete the wind farm and associated substation by the summer of 2022. “Finland aims to be climate neutral by 2035. An ambitious…
The European Union wants to establish itself as the world leader in hydrogen technologies and will focus on ramping up electrolyser capacities in the next four years. According to the European Commission’s hydrogen strategy, the bloc aims to create a multi billion euro market by 2050 that will support up to 1 million jobs and will help to reach greenhouse gas reduction targets in sectors that are otherwise hard to decarbonise. German heavy industry welcomed the EU’s approach, but environmentalists and the renewable industry criticised that the strategy included hydrogen made on the basis of fossil fuels. German politicians and…
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has closed a non-recourse long-term project financing credit facility for the Monegros portfolio investment of 12 onshore wind farms with a total installed capacity of 487 MW in Aragon, Spain. Six leading Spanish and European banks, including ABN AMRO, Bankia, Bankinter, BBVA, Sabadell and Unicredit, have pledged approximately €380 million of non-recourse long-term debt funding available for drawdown upon the wind farms starting commercial operations.
