DEME Offshore has installed the first turbine at the Belgian North Sea offshore wind farm SeaMade. SeaMade is Belgium’s biggest offshore wind farm, with a capacity of 487 MW. Offshore construction of the SeaMade wind farm began in September 2019, with the latest foundation installed in January 2020 and the subsea cables connected in the meantime. RJ McLeod will lead the construction of the country’s newest onshore wind farm following the award of a multi-million-pound contract by Vattenfall. At South Kyle wind farm in East Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway, RJ McLeod will supply roads and access routes, electrical infrastructure, turbine foundations, and other facilities. Cubico Sustainable Investments (Cubico) has acquired an onshore wind development business in France from InControl and Biorganotec. The development portfolio, which comprises around 200 MW and more than 10 projects, is spread across France. The Southwest Power Pool (SPP), the regional transmission organization that operates the electric grid for most of the central United States, has set records for the highest proportion of electricity demand supplied by wind power in both a single-hour period (72%) and a full day (62%). Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) has advised Helios Energy Investments (Helios) on the purchase and associated financing of large-scale photovoltaic projects in Bonete, Albacete, Spain from Cobra (ACS Group). Energy Vendée, a French wpd project company, has reported that ENERCON will supply the turbines for the Auzay onshore wind project. The Auzay project is located in the municipality of Auchay sur Vendée, Département Vendée, in the Pays de la Loire region of north-west France. OWC has hired Jeff Fodiak to head up the company’s US office and separately strengthened its operations in both UK and Germany with new hires. Fodiak has worked as a renewable energy electrical engineering consultant since 2008, specializing in the electrical design, grid connection and general engineering of offshore wind farms. GE Renewable Energy has reported that its prototype Haliade-X 12 MW has obtained a provisional form certificate from DNV-GL. This certification demonstrates GE’s Haliade-X prototype has high safety and quality standards, and provides evidence that its design is on-track to meet the full type certification requirements.
