MHI Vestas and Seagreen Wind Energy have finalized a supply contract for 114 turbines for Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm. The Seagreen project, which will be the single largest renewable energy source in Scotland when completed, finalized the firm order for MHI Vestas’ 114 V164-10 MW turbines to be installed off Fife’s coast in 2021. Seagreen will be built out to 1.075 MW capacity. The contract will see MHI Vestas manufacture and install turbines at its fourth project in Scotland, the 1.140MW site in Seagreen. MHI Vestas has also signed a 15-year operation and maintenance contract at the plant. “We…

SolarPower Europe has launched a new workstream focusing on the future of European power grids, with the goal of supporting the integration of more solar photovoltaics and decentralized energy systems to develop a climate-resilient electricity grid infrastructure and support the EU’s climate neutrality target. Because of its low costs and scalability, according to LUT University and SolarPower Europe’s ‘100 percent renewable Europe’ study, solar will be at the core of the future European energy system and is set to generate at least 63 percent of Europe’s electricity generation by 2050. Developing a modern and robust grid infrastructure will be needed…

Enel Green Power Spain has connected the Oriche wind farm to the power grid. The facility is located in the districts of Allueva, Anadón and Fonfría in the province of Teruel and has a capacity of 14.4 MW. The investment in this project amounts to 14.8 million euros. The Oriche wind farm consists of four turbines, each with a capacity of 3.6 MW, and will produce approximately 48 GWh annually, sufficient to provide electricity to 15.000 households. When fully operational, the plant would prevent about 31.800 tons of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere annually. Construction of this renewable capacity…

Danish electricity producers set a new green record in 2019, with an average produced kilowatt-hour emitted 135 gr CO2 / kWh. It is the lowest CO2 emission ever measured in Denmark and about one-seventh of what the electricity producers emitted in 1990. At that time, the figure was over 1000 gr CO2 / kWh. One reason is that more green power has been produced because the Horns Rev 3 offshore wind farm, which can produce electricity for 425,000 households, was commissioned in 2019. Another reason is that Danish coal consumption fell by 46 percent from 2018 to 2019. The drastic…

Saitec Offshore Technologies and the open sea test site Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP) have signed a contract to install DemoSATH project off the Basque Coast. The project will use SATH Technology to test the very first floating wind foundation connected to the Spanish grid. Operations are planned for late 2021. When linked to the grid DemoSATH is projected to supply nearly 2.000 homes with electricity. The structure, which will be about 30 meters wide and about 67 meters long, will be assembled in the port of Bilbao with a 2 MW wind turbine. It will be towed from there…

BayWa r.e. has completed the Kuwabarajo Mega Solar No.4, its first solar park in Japan. The 11.9MW project covers 24 hectares and is located Izumi in the Kyushu Kagoshima Prefecture. The park will generate enough power to supply 5.000 households. “We’re very pleased to announce the completion of our first solar farm in Japan. Developing mega-solar projects in Japan is a challenge, given that suitable land for construction is scarce, and the permission process can easily take a few years. We are very proud to be playing a role in helping Japan to grow its renewable energy generation and support…

Eneco and SwifterwinT have entered into a 15-year contract for the purchase of the power supplied by SwifterwinT’s 37 onshore wind turbines. As of 2023, these turbines will produce 780 GWh of green power per year, which is equal to the total electricity usage of about 275.000 households. This is enough to give the entire city of Almere green power each year. The goal of Eneco is to use the electricity locally, wherever possible. The SwifterwinT turbines are part of Windplanblauw wind farm in the Dronten and Lelystad municipalities, situated in the northwest corner of Flevoland province. The existing 74…
