In the south-west of the Netherlands, Vattenfall is currently constructing its largest hybrid energy park. Once operational this farm will consist of 6 wind turbines, 115,000 solar panels and 12 sea containers with batteries. The wind turbines have been installed, the construction of the solar panels started in June and the batteries are currently being tested off-site, ready for delivery in August. The amount of green electricity that the energy park will produce corresponds to the annual consumption of 39,000 households. “Here at Haringvliet we combine three technologies: wind, solar, and battery storage. Wind and solar complement each other very…

REDAVIA deployed its first solar farm in Kenya for the Menengai Farmers tea farm in Tigoni. For the first 20 years of its operations, Menengai Farmers successfully grew tea without any large electrical demands. However, in the mid-’80s, weather patterns in Tigoni changed requiring the installation of an irrigation system. As the tea farm and irrigation system have grown, so have Menengai Farmer Ltd’s energy needs, putting a strain on their operational budget. Designed for maximum ease, REDAVIA’s contract also includes installation, maintenance, and 24/7 technical monitoring. REDAVIA’s onsite engineers deployed the solar ground mount unit at the Menengai Farmers…

CrossWind, a consortium comprising Shell and Eneco, is going to build and operate the third unsubsidized wind farm in the Dutch North Sea. The wind farm will be in the Hollandse Kust (noord) Wind Farm Zone (HKNWFZ). The wind farm will have a capacity of over 750 MW and its construction will mean that by 2023, offshore wind power will provide 16% of the Netherlands’ electricity needs. In 2016, Blauwwind (comprising Shell and Eneco) was awarded the permit to build and operate sites III en IV in the Borssele Wind Farm Zone. This wind farm is currently under construction.
