BHEL-Hitachi Energy consortium has acquired a Letter of Intent from Adani Energy Solutions for a 6,000 MW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission project.

This undertaking is set to connect the vibrant solar deserts of Rajasthan with the populous energy demands of Uttar Pradesh. Spearheading a shift from conventional power avenues, this ambitious project aims to bolster the country’s renewable energy grid, integrating vast solar and wind resources by 2030.

February of 2025 marked a milestone with Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission under the aegis of Adani Energy Solutions, issuing the LOI to Bharat Heavy Electricals. The task is clear: to forge a transmission link that not only promises seamless energy transfer but also champions an enhanced green energy infrastructure within India. Such endeavors are a pivotal force in addressing the persistent challenge of integrating disparate renewable energy sources into the national framework.

The technical intricacies of this project are worthy of note. The design will encompass a +800 kV HVDC Line-Commutated Converter system, meticulously laid out with terminal stations at both Bhadla III in Rajasthan and Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh. Each site will boast a capacity of 6,000 MW, cleverly divided into four units of 1,500 MW each. Moreover, the vital inclusion of AC substations will be instrumental, ensuring the dependable integration of renewable energy flows into the wider grid system. As India grapples with transmission bottlenecks, projects like these are crucial for reinforcing grid stability and optimizing electricity delivery to areas of growing demand.

By 2030, this advanced transmission network is anticipated not only to alleviate current inefficiencies but also to propel India towards its ambitious renewable energy aspirations. The project’s scale is underscored by its anticipated impact on reducing bottlenecks and stabilizing the grid, providing a reliable flow of clean energy from Rajasthan to Uttar Pradesh. As the nation envisions a future with an augmented renewable footprint, reinforcing grid infrastructures through methods such as HVDC transmission links become non-negotiable imperatives.
