In late 2021, Caterpillar will begin producing designed-to-order Cat generator sets that can run entirely on hydrogen, including fully renewable green hydrogen.
The company will first introduce commercially available power generation solutions that can be customized to run on natural gas combined with up to 25% hydrogen.
Caterpillar’s hydrogen solutions portfolio includes SolarĀ® Turbines’ gas turbine generating sets, which have been working on high hydrogen blends for decades and are now capable of operating on 100 percent hydrogen. Customers’ carbon-reduction targets can be met with high-performing, cost-effective technology thanks to the ability to work with hydrogen fuel.
“At Caterpillar, we are working alongside our customers to understand their needs, and they are looking for reliable power sources that support their climate-related goals,” said Joe Creed, Caterpillar group president of Energy & Transportation. “Our continued investment in new products, technologies and services is one way we’re supporting them with the quality solutions they’ve come to count on from Caterpillar.”
