Compressed Hydrogen Vehicle Fuel Dispensing System

The advancement of hydrogen fuel technology has seen a significant development with the creation of a Compressed Hydrogen Vehicle Fuel Dispensing System, recently patented by Boyd Hydrogen LLC.

As hydrogen-powered vehicles become more prevalent, ensuring efficient and safe refueling infrastructure is critical. This patent outlines a sophisticated system designed to address these challenges.

At the core of this system lies a sonic choke, which features an orifice defined in a generally cylindrical body. This body includes a throat section situated between two opposing frustoconical sections. The sonic choke plays a pivotal role in regulating the flow of hydrogen, maintaining the gas at desired flow rates, and ensuring safe dispensing.

Multiple Sonic Chokes for Enhanced Performance

To optimize hydrogen delivery and accommodate various vehicle demands, the system incorporates multiple sonic chokes connected in parallel. These chokes work collectively with a network of hydrogen storage banks. This parallel configuration ensures that hydrogen can be dispensed to vehicles at consistent and desirable flow rates, facilitating a faster and more reliable refueling process.

Another critical component of the system is the series of flow control valves incorporated within the design. These valves are tasked with directing the flow of compressed hydrogen to the sonic chokes. By effectively managing the hydrogen flow, these valves ensure that the gas is delivered at controlled rates, enhancing both the efficiency and safety of the refueling process.

In addition to the structural components of the system, the patent also details a specific method for fueling vehicles with compressed hydrogen. This method leverages the precise control offered by the flow control valves and the consistent flow rates maintained by the sonic chokes. By following this method, operators can ensure a streamlined and effective refueling process for hydrogen-powered vehicles.
