Edmonton International Airport (EIA) has pledged to use its ecosystem and ESG leadership role to become a major driver of hydrogen fuel demand, as well as to open the airport as a new home for piloting emerging hydrogen technologies.
EIA is announcing a number of new agreements with multi-national and Canadian businesses. Agreements with global giants like Mitsui and Toyota, as well as multiple Canadian and Alberta companies and a Japanese government investment agency, are among them. These agreements, when combined, will position EIA as a major driver of hydrogen fuel demand and support the expansion of the Edmonton Hydrogen Hub.
Depending on the scope of the work and the various partners involved, testing and development of the technologies will begin this year and continue into 2023 and beyond. These investments and testing programs will have no impact on passengers or flights, and there will be no additional costs for passengers as a result of any of these agreements or programs.
The EIA’s commitment to hydrogen reflects its environmental, social, and governance values.
