In a significant step toward a sustainable energy future, the government of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, in collaboration with the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Environment (Sema), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Green EN.IT and Ventos do Atlântico Energia Eólica SA. The goal of the MoU is to promote the production of green hydrogen, a clean, sustainable, and versatile energy carrier, in the region.
Marjorie Kauffmann, head of Sema, underscored the state’s commitment to the energy transition, highlighting its focus on utilizing green hydrogen for internal consumption and leveraging the competitive advantage provided by the state’s infrastructure relative to other regions in the country.
The MoU, set to last for three years, aims not only to stimulate the development of green hydrogen projects but also to identify potential regulatory and fiscal hurdles. This initiative aligns with the government’s goal of expanding the renewable energy matrix, reducing carbon emissions, and creating new employment and income opportunities.
Secretary of Economic Development (Sedec), Ernani Polo, emphasized the state’s competitive edge in renewable energy production, stressing the importance of Rio Grande do Sul leading the way in both domestic and export production of green hydrogen.
In a bid to stay ahead in the sector, the state is pursuing partnerships with internationally recognized companies like Neoenergia, Enerfin, Ocean Winds, and White Martins. These collaborations are facilitated through additional memoranda, laying the foundation for project development in the green hydrogen sector.
