The mosaHYc project marks ENGIE’s first milestone towards its ambition to establish a 700 km hydrogen transport network across Europe by 2030.
mosaHYc is a proximate 90 km hydrogen pipeline shared with Germany. It’s anticipated to require an investment of €110 million, €40 million of which is estimated to be shouldered by GRTgaz.
GRTgaz, an independent ENGIE subsidiary, will manage the French segment of the project (a 50 km strip, 45 km of which includes a converted pipeline in the Moselle region). In contrast, CREOS Deutschland will develop the German section in Saarland that covers approximately 40 km. The pipeline will connect the towns of Völklingen, Perl (Saarland), and Saint Avold (Moselle).
The first client of the project will be the Dillingen steelmaking site in Saarland, operated by RoheisenGessellscha Saar SHS (Stahl Holding Saar group). The final investment decision promotes the administrative authorizations phase. This step will be followed by the construction and network conversion phase, timed for completion in 2027.
ENGIE embarked on mosaHYc — a cross-border initiative seeking to convert gas pipelines into hydrogen transport systems between France and Germany. An investment decision has been finalized by GRTgaz, in partnership with CREOS Deutschland, for the 90 km renewable or low-carbon hydrogen network scheme. The project will interconnect greater France’s eastern region (France) to Saarland (Germany) and Luxembourg’s border.
