Envision Energy, a Chinese company, has signed a contract with Air Products to supply 1.67 GW wind turbines for the world’s largest green hydrogen plant.

The plant is being built by NEOM Green Hydrogen Company as part of the NEOM giga project in northwest Saudi Arabia. Air Products, the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contractor, will also be the exclusive off-taker of green ammonia produced from the project.

Envision’s Model EN:171/6.5MW wind turbines will be utilized for the project, with full operational capacity expected by 2026. NEOM Green Hydrogen Company aims to produce carbon-free hydrogen using renewable energy sources like wind and solar power. The plant aims to produce up to 600 tonnes per day of carbon-free hydrogen by the end of 2026.

China’s Envision Energy has established itself as a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, and this contract signifies its involvement in the global green hydrogen market. The partnership with Air Products, a leading industrial gas company, highlights the importance of collaboration between different industry sectors to advance sustainable energy solutions.

The NEOM giga project in Saudi Arabia, with its vast renewable energy potential, serves as an ideal location for the world’s largest green hydrogen plant. The project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s vision to diversify its energy sources and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.

Green hydrogen has gained significant attention as a clean and versatile energy carrier with the potential to decarbonize various sectors such as transportation, industry, and power generation. The NEOM green hydrogen plant’s ambitious goal of producing 600 tonnes per day will contribute to reducing carbon emissions and supporting the global transition to a low-carbon economy.

However, challenges exist in scaling up green hydrogen production, including the high cost of renewable energy infrastructure and the need for robust storage and transportation solutions. Additionally, establishing a global supply chain and developing supportive policies and regulations are crucial to unlocking the full potential of green hydrogen.

The NEOM green hydrogen project represents a significant milestone in advancing the development and deployment of large-scale green hydrogen production. It showcases the increasing international collaboration and investment in clean energy technologies that will play a vital role in achieving climate goals and fostering sustainable economic growth.
